HomeMy WebLinkAbout1952-01-14 Board of Public Works Minutes 5 Reading, Mass . , January 14, 1952 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:00 P. M. . Chairman Hopkins, Messrs. Donahue, Calvin, Harrison, Walker, and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Considered letter from Selectmen requesting Bd. of Public Works to take over marking traffic lanes on streets. Voted to decline reouest because Bd, feels that lack of manpower would prevent them doing an efficient job. Considered note from Supt. relative to overtime for foremen during emergencies requiring them to work long hours. Voted to submit proposed regulation to Town Counsel for redrafting and to then submit the proposed regulation to the Personnel Bd. for their consideration. Considered note from Supt. relative to occupant at 132 Oak St. , depositing water onto the public way. Voted to servenotice on occupant that he must cease pump- ing water onto the public way. Considered rough lay of Pierce land off South St. , and tentatively agreed to approve proposed location of entering street. Considered request of Alvin Hemenway, 82 Wescroft Rd. for an abatement on his Jan. 1952 water bill. Voted not to grant an abatement. Considered 1951 Income Statement of Dept. s Considered report of Supt. relative to his past ' experiences with Dominic Zanni both personal and business. Voted to file report in official Dept. file. Considered letter from Ruth Larsen, 22 Main St,., relative to sanding joint driveway to her house from Main St. especially steep grade just west. of Main St, Voted to place a stock pile of sand at the side of the road near. the top of the steep grade.
