Reading, Mass., February 16, 1942
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P-M-
Messrs. Davis, Brophy, Lindsay, Lothrop, Tear and Superintendent
Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting read end approved.
Received letter from State Dept. of Public Works atating that
no Chgpter 90 Construction Funds will be available in 1942.
Received letter from Metropolitan District Water Commision
enclosing opinion of Attorney General to the effect that the water
main connection between Stoneham and Reading does not crane within
the meaning and intent of Chapter 727 of the General Laws.
Considered letter written to the Finance Committee by this
Board relative to salary accounts in Board of Public Works Budget.
Hearing at 8:30 P-M. on the proposed relocation of the .southerly
sideline of Hopkins Street easterly from Main Street .

The Board agreed to do the following items on the Akerly property
in return for thedeeding of 5,143 sq. £t, of land to the Town by the
Akerlys.
A. Relocate the present ditch so that it will be 25 ft.
from and parallel to the proposed new location line.
B. Pipe in the new ditch.

�. Use excavated material from new ditch to fill
in old ditch.
D. Relocate the present line wall on the new proposed
location line.
It was voted to recommend the new location line to the
Town for acceptance.
Signed Report of Laying Out of the proposed relocation of
the southerly side line of Hopkins Street from Main Street easterly, _
a copy of which is attached hereto and herewith becomes a part of
these records.
Discussed the present water rates.

REPORT OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS ON THE
RELOCATION OR ALTERATION OF THE SOUTHERLY LINE OF HOPKINS STREET

The Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading having deter-
mined and adjudged that common convenience require that the public high-
way be laid out, relocated or altered as and in the location hereinafter
described, having complied with all requirements of law relating to no-
tice to owners of land thereof and of a hearing thereon, and having met
at the time and place appointed for such hearing and then and there
heard all persons present, who desired to be heard, have laid out, re-
located or altered as a public highway for the use of the Town, a por-
tion of the Southerly side line of Hopkins Street. The boundaries and
measurements of said public highway as so laid out, relocated or altered
are as follo�w

of Main Street, a State Highway in said Reading, said
point being S. 40-11'-50s E. , a distance of 168.63
feet measured along said Easterly side line of Main .
Street from a State Highway Bound set at a point of

Thence by a curved line North to East, having
a radius of 20.0 feet, through lands of Nora M.
Walsh Heirs or Devisees, a length of 32.22 feet to a
point;
Thence N. 880-07'-10" E. , still through lands
of said Walsh Heirs or Devisees, a distance of 88.71
feet to a point of curve;
Thence by a curved line to the Right, having a
radius of 1200.00 feet, still through lands of said
Walsh Heirs or Devisees, lands of Mary A. Jewett
Heirs or Devisees, and lands of Katarzyna Sztucinska,
a length of 452.38 feet to a point of tangent;

on the Southerly side line of Hopkins Street, said
point also being the Easterly terminus of this relo-

the former Southerly side line of said Hopkins Street,
as the stone wall now stands, a distance of 97.56 feet
to an angle point;
Thence N. 710-35'-20" W. , still by said former
Southerly side line of Hopkins Street and stone wall,
a distance of 59.20 feet to another angle point;
Thence N. 750-591 -20" W. , still by said former
Southerly side line of Hopkins Street and stone wall,
a distance of 251.80 feet to another angle point;
Thence N. 790-59'-20" W. , still by said former
Southerly side line of Hopkins Street and stone wall,
a distance of 32.14 feet to another angle point;
Thence S. 880-09'-10" W. , still by said former
Southerly side line of Hopkins Street and stone wall,
a distance of 212.51 feet to a point, said point mark-
ing the intersection of the said former Southerly side
line of Hopkins Street with the Easterly side line of
said Main Street;
Thence S. 40-11'-50" E. , by said Easterly side
line of Main Street, and by a stone wall, a distance
of 40.82 feet to the point of beginning. )
The above described lines being more fully shown on a Plan
entitled "Relocation of the Southerly line of Hopkins Street, Reading,
Mass." dated February 1942, Board of Public Works, Philip Welch,
Supt. , said Plan being a part of this description.
We determine that no damages will be sustained by any person
or persons in their property by reason of the taking to be made for
this improvement.
No betterments are to be assessed for this improvement.

This laying out, relocation or alteration so made by us we
hereby report to the Town for acceptance and recommend that when this
report is accepted and adopted by the Town, that said public highway
shall thereafter be laid out, relocated or altered in accordance with
said plan. and that the sum of One ($1.00) Dollar be raised and ap-
priated for the said laying out, alteration and relocation of said way.
