HomeMy WebLinkAbout1941-12-15 Board of Public Works Minutes 169 Reading, Ptass„ December 15, 1941 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Davis, Brophy, Lindsay, Lothrop, Teer and Superinten- dent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Received letter from Herman Feer stating that bumper rail will be installed in Parking Area at 1st National Stores on Haven Street abutting Gould Street. Received letter from State Dept. Public Works approving work done under 19111 Chapter 90 Maintenance contract, Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on petition of New England Tel. & Tel. Co, to lay 22 ft, for underground conduit in Lowell St, from manhole 74/25 to the northerly sideline of Lowell Street, No one present. Location granted and petition signed. Voted to authorize Superintendent to write to Selectmen requesting that member of Home Guard be assigned to guard Pumping Station and Filter Plant from 6:00 P.M. to 12:00 midnight daily from Monday thru Friday and on week ends from 12:00 noon Saturday to 12:00 midnight Sunday. Voted to close Department at 12:00 noon December 24, 1941, Voted to pay the R.G.Robinson Co. $330.00 before December 31, 1941s in lieu of turning in the steam shovel. Signed commitment papers for betterment assessments on Pilgrim Road and Coolidge Road. Voted to paint out the work Reading on the Beacon Street Standpipe and to paint the tops of both standpipes. 1'70 Considered various defense problems of Water Department.
