HomeMy WebLinkAbout1941-06-02 Board of Public Works Minutes 136 Reading, Klass., June 2, 1941 1 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Messrs, Brophy, Lindsay, Lothrop. Tear. and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Brophy acted as chairman. Received notice from Board of Selectmen that a special Town Meeting will be held on June 23, 1941. Voted to insert Article in Warrant for special Town Meeting of June 23 requesting that the available funds in the Water Reserve be transferred to the Water Department. Voted to request Finance Committee to transfer 4775.00 from the Reserve Account to Lewis Street Ext. Betterment Account. Mr. Albert Carpenter to see Board in regard to certain lands owned by the Meadow Brook Golf Club which abut the Town' s well field. Board will investigate. Postponed hearing under Board of Survey for the approval of proposed lines and grades for Beverly Road reopened at 8:00 P. M. Following persons present: Mrs. Roxbee - In favor Mr. Bearse - It 11 Voted to approve lines and grades as shown on plan in green ink. Voted to hold meetings on alternate Monday, evenings beginning IJune 16Tp 1941. Received petition from Reading Theatre to construct a triangular AM 13'7 Marguee over the sidewalk in front of the main doorway. Permit granted subject to Department' s rules and regulations, Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved and placed on file, Donald Ellingwood - Lot 11 - Gardner Road Jeffrey Robbins - Lot 10 - " it H. Manley ' - - - 3 m n Voted to require a new lot layout for Emerson Park in the event that Hawthorne Road layout when presented to Board of Survey does not conform to the same location as shown in,t he original lot layout. Conference held with chairman of Finance Committee and members of subcommittee on Town Salaries. Discussed salaries and attendant conditions at some length. Voted to readjust the' wage rates paid temporary employees as follows: A. Temporary employees are to be paid 55 cents per hour during their first year of employment with this Dept. B. Temporary employees are to be paid 60 cents per hour after the expiration of one year's employment. C. A year' s employment shall be a term of at least twenty consecutive weeks in any one year. Voted to change the basis of hourly wage rates for regular employees from 48 hours to 44* hours. Both wage rate readjustment for temporary employees is to be tried for a probationary period of three months from date. Signed Easement for Water Main for Beverly Road.
