Reading, Mass. , May 26, 1941
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened
at 7:30 P.M.
Messrs. Davis, Brophy, Lindsay, Lothrop, Tear and Super-
intendent Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Mr. Fred Herson, 396 Lowell Street to see Board in regard
to the construction of Pilgrim Road abutting his property. He wishes
grade of Pilgrim Road lowered opposite his driveway.
Board will visit location.
Hearing at 8:00 P.M. under Board of Survey on approval
of proposed lines and grades £or Beverly Rd, from Lowell St. approx.301.79f1
Following persons present:
Mr. James Sanborn '
Mrs. L7dia Roxbee
Mr. Joseph-Bearse.
Mr. Sanborn objected to proposed layout.
Hearing adjourned to Monday June 2, 1941
Informal hearing at 8:30 P.M. on the possibilities of accept-
ing Sanborn Lane as a public way.

No action taken,
Mr, Edwin Doherty and Mr, Harold Hardy, temporary employees
of the Department to see Board in regard to a possible readjustment of
the wage scale now paid temporary employees.
They presented a petition signed by thirty-nine (39) temporary
employees requesting Board to consider a readjustment of the present wage
scale for temporary employees.
Board will investigate,
Town Counsel to see Board in regard to certain betterments out-
standing on properties to which titles have been taken by the Town.
Board voted to abate the following assessments made in December
1939 because of the construction of Waverly Road,

142, 141, 140, 139 and three unnumbered lots.
Total abatement $1286,81. Abatements made because the Town
has foreclosed on the lots and the titles to same are now held in the
name of the Town of Reading.
Chairman appointed Mr, Tear to confer with Board of Selectmen
relative to playground supervisors for the coming summer months.
Received letter from Mr. Cleveland of 206 West Street relative
to the condition of the sidewalk in front of his property,
Following Granolithie sidewalk applications received, approved
and placed on file,
Gilbert Kelley - 2.5 Belmont St,
Received letter from Mass. Commonwealth on Public Safety
stating they are unable to advise Board as to possibilities of camouflag-
ing Bare Hill Standpipe,

It was voted to proceed with painting as previously
decided. ,
It was voted to purchase a supply of tires sufficient
to cover the Departmentts requirements for one year.
Board adjourned 11:00 P.M.
