HomeMy WebLinkAbout1940-10-14 Board of Public Works Minutes 75 Reading, Mass. , October 14, 1940 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at ' 7:3a P.M. Messrs. Putnam, Brophy, Lindsay, Williamson and Superin- tendent Welch were present. Mr. Putnam acted as Chairman. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Voted to close the Department Wednesday A.M. in honor of Daniel O'Keefe, former caretaker of Town Dump who was critically burned while working at the Town Dump on Saturday afternoon October 12, 1940, and who died Sunday October 13, 1940. The following resolution was passed upon the death of Daniel OtKeefe. Whereas: The Board of Public Works has learned, , with profound sorrow, of the death of Daniel O'Keefe, a trusted employee of the Department, the following resolution was passed: Resolved: - That the passing of Daniel O'Keefe, for several years, a valued and trusted employee, fills his former co-workers with profound sorrow and a sense of personal loss. His unselfish de- votion to duty is a shining mark for all to- follow+ Always faithful, loyal and courteous he was known throughout the Town for his years of excellent and valued service as caretaker of the Town Dump. The pride he took in his work created results which have many times been praised by various agencies. The results of his faithful service will cause him to be long remembered. Be it Further Resolved: That the foregoing resolution be spread upon the records, and a copy thereof transmitted to the family of the deceased. Voted to authorize Superintendent to engage a caretaker for the Town Dump. 76 Voted following pole locations: Franklin St. - Present J. 0, Pole 27/33 to be moved 7 ft. Westerly West St. - Present J.O. Pole 98/26 to be moved 41 ft. Southerly West St. - Present J. 0. Pole 98/27 to be moved 4.1 ft. southerly West St. - n a u n 98/28 ° n n 39 n It Received letter from Cemetery Trustees requesting roadway intersection island at Pearl St. & Porest Glen Road be graded, losmed and seeded.
