HomeMy WebLinkAbout1940-04-12 Board of Public Works Minutes - Reading, Mass., April 12, 1940 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened , at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Lindsay, Brophy, Williamson and Superintendent Welch were present. Mr. Lindsay acted as chairman. Mr. Williamson acted as secretary. Records of previous mseting read and approved. Mrs. Cora Black to see Board in regard to blocking of drainage ditch o$ West Side of Main St, beyond Forest St, by persons unknown. Superintendent to investigate. Mrs. Daniels, of Welfard Dept, to see Board requesting abatement on water bill of Mr. Henry Pierce, of 91 South Street. Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved and placed on file. Mary Stalliday - 64 Pearl St. Leon Scott - 66 " " Beatrice Cook - 22 " " Ruby Milbury - 16 - " it Myra Parker - 101� Salem St. - Pearl St. Frontage Edna Bowron - k Pearl St. Fred Curtis - 21 Susette Berry - 23 Received letter from Miss Evelio Irving inviting Board to attend an exhibit of metal & leather handcraft to be held April 26, 1940 at 8 Woburn Street. -Received notice from Selectmen that Special Town Meeting will be held May 1, 1940. Voted to omit meeting of April 19th. Neat meeting to be .April 26th. , 3^a Voted to purchase a wave stride without post and top for Birch Meadow. The present Ocean Wave post. & top fit new apparatus. Voted abatement of $ 1.00 on Water bill of Mrs. Mae Jackson, 10 Ordway Terrace . Mr. Jo Preston to see Board in regard to taking of land of Marg Emerson for darainage purposes. Requested information relative to proposed taking. Signed commitment sheet of Sewer Assessments for sewer construc r'� tion on Harrison St, from Salem St, to Orange St. , on Orange St. from Harrison St. to Pearl St, and on Pearl St, from Orange St, to opposite Pearl St, school. Received letter from Town Counsel explaining the provisions of the law in relation to Sunday sports. Received letter from Town Counsel quoting opinions on the General Laws, and Chapter 314 of the Acts of 1909, as they effect the operation of the Sewer Department. Voted to relocate shrubs so as to lengthen left field foul line at Washington St. Park, i'oul line is now 300 ft, long. Will be 345 ft. long. Board adjourned to home of Mr. Wendell Davis to continue meeting. Mr. Davis acted as chairman. Discussed granolithic sidewalk porgram for 1940. Received letter from Earl Adams, 15 Mineral St. , requesting list of equipment purchased by the Board of Public Works during the years 1937, 1938 and 1939, and the price paid for each item. Voted to forward information requested. IVoted an abatement of $7.98 on October 1939 water bill of Henry Pierce, 91 South St. Voted an abatement of 07,98 on April 1940 water bill of Henry .
