HomeMy WebLinkAbout1940-03-15 Board of Public Works Minutes - _ 23 Reading, Mass. , March 15 , 1940. The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. Davis , Putnam, Brophy, Lindsay, Williamson and Super- intendent Welch were present . Hearing at 8:00 P. M. on changing name of Yale Avenue as it is at present to John Carver Road. No one present . Board voted as follows: BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS TOWN OF READING MASS. VOTE: March 15 , 1940. MEMBERS PRESENT: Messrs. Wendell P. Davis , Chairman, Harold W. Putnam, Secretary, Alex Lindsay, Edward A. Brophy, Alexander Williamson. Whereas after a Public Hearing and after discussion, it was determined and adjudged by this Board that Yale Avenue, a private way which is open for public use in sEid Town of Reading, is identical with or similar to the name of another way in said Town, thereby leading. to confusion. And whereas public convenience and necessity require that the name of the Private Way now known as Yale Avenue, ex- tending Northerly from John Carver Road to a dead end North of Woodland (Private) Street be changed, it was , upon motion duly made and seconded, VOTED to adopt the following order: 0 R D E R E D: T hat the name of Yale Avenue, ex- tending Northerly fromJohn Carver Road to a dead end North of Woodland (Priv=te) Street , be and hereby is changed to, and shall hereafter be known as John Carver Road, and that a copy of such order effecting such change , signed by the Chairman of said Board, shall be recorded in the Registry of Deeds for the Southern District of Middlesex County, and. a copy thereof filed in the office of the Town Clerk of Reading, and said Board shall cause to be placed on such private way a suitable sign bearing the name of such way as changed and stat- ing that it is a privateway, such sign to be placed at or near each point where any other way enters or unites with it . 2:1 I Received letter from County Commissioners requesting Board to take action on the proposed Charles St. relocation lines for which hearings have been held by County Commissioners. Board to request set of plans and to inform County-Commissioners of their wished at a later date. Voted pole locations to Municipal Light Board on Eaton St. be- tween Pleasant St. & Smith Ave. as -follows: Relocate Pole No. 19/8 southerly 41 ft. Relocate Pole No. 19/9 " .56 H. Abandon present location of Pole No. 19/10 - Considered motions for Town Meeting. All motions to contain amounts as recommended by rinance Uommittee. Board adjourned 11100 P. M. March 15, 1940 OFFICE OF ThE BOt1RD OF PUBLIC WORKS TOWN OF RENDING That we, the undersigned, being a majority of the Board of Public Works of the Town of Reading, in the County of Middlesex and Common- wealth of Massachusetts, by virtue of the provisions of Statute 1921, Chapter 118, are vested with all the rights, powers and authority as the Board of Survey under tree provisions of Chapter 41 of the General Laws, by virtue of the provisions of Section 3 B of Chapter 85 of the General Laws, and by every other power and authority hereto enabling, do, after public hearing, hereby adjudge that the name of a private way which is open for public use in said Reading, extending Northerly from John Carver Road to a dean end North of Woodland (Private ) Street, is iden- tical with or similar to the name of another way in said Town, thereby leading to confusion, and that public convenience and necessity require that the name of said private way be changed, and it is hereby ORDERED that the name of said Yale :Avenue, a private way extending Northerly from John Carver Road to a dead end North of Woodland (Private ) Street, be and hereby is changed to, and shall hereafter be lmown as John Carver Road, and that a copy of this order duly signed by the Chairman of the Bo-ard,be recorded in the Registry of Deeds for the Southern District of Middlesex County, and a copy be filed in the Office of the Town Clerk of Reading. . )p , _ . High St. - Poles andfrom J.O. to Town of Reading. High St. - Location at Southeast corner of Mineral St, and High St, abandoned. Hearing at 8:10 P.M. on proposed pole locations for Municipal Light Board and New England Tel. & Tel. Co. on East side of High St. 203 ft, and 283 ft. north of north side line of Middlesex Ave, respect- ively. No one present. Locations granted. Hearing at 8:20 P.M. on proposed pole location for Municipal . Light Board on West side of Vine St. 100 ft. north of South side line of Middlesex Ave. 40 one present. Location granted. , Received letter from Mr. William Elliott, who lives off County Road thanking Board for the shoveling done on the lane leading to his house during the snow storm in February. Received letter from Mr. Clinton Bancroft thanking Board for removing snow from in front of his house for the funeral of his mother. Received letter from the family of the late Mil]Lard F.Charles thanking Board for removing the snow from in front of his late residence for his funeral. Voted to request a ,joint meeting with Board of Selectmen and Board of Public Welfare to discuss several matters of joint interest. Voted to hold a hearing on Franklin St, drainage conditions as provided by the General Statutes. , Ernest Brown, Pearl St. to see Board in relation to Storm Drain W. P. A. Project on Pearl St. He is afraid trench wills ave in. Matter referred to Superintandent. Voted to hold hearing on proposed Charles St. Layout and proposed grade change as soon as possible.
