HomeMy WebLinkAbout1925-05-22 Board of Public Works Minutes May 22, 1925. Members present: John W. Owen, Joseph W. Booth, Frank C. Carter, William S. Kinsley, M. C. Higgins and the Superintendent. The Reading Rubber Mfg. Co. and Sanford Mills have re- fused to sign releases to the Town covering the proposed drainage work across their property. This means that this work is indefi- nitely postponed until such releases are received. Mr. Owen informed the Board that he had taken up the matter of reconstruction of Haven St. with the State Highway Commissioners. They have agreed to furnish engineering service during construction work and prepare the bids for advertising without expense to the town. The Highway Dept. finances were carefully examined and it was found that the Dept. would ,just about au- y through by keeping careful watch of the expenditures. This will allow the Haven St. ,job to be done by outside contractors provided that a bid can be obtained which would not be greatly in excess of our extimate of cost of about'eoo. The hearing set for May 8th petitioned by the Municipal Light Dept. for location of 16 poles on Franklin St, was not adver- tised so that the permit that was granted at that time was illegal. ,f The hearing wak advertised for May 22nd. Two residents, Mr. Sias and Mr. Charles R. Herrick, appeared at the hearing and protested against the locations of poles number 4, 5, 6, and 7. Permission was not granted and Mr. Collins was instructed to take up the matter of locations with the Light.Dept. Because of lack of funds and the necessity of doing work of more importance the Highway Dept. will not be able to construct the _ sidewalk on High St. requested by Mr. Everett H. Hall and he was so advised. The Board does not feel that the Town is responsible for the condition of the gutter complained_ of by Mr. Roberts of Summer Ave. No work will be done by the Highway Dept. on this complaint and Mr. Roberts was so notified. Mr. Collins was instructed to order the 6" pipe and fittings for the Libby Ave. water extension but not for Forest St. Respectfully,^ submit , Semeta2y.
