England Telephone and Telegraph Co. and Town of Reading
Municipal light Department for permit to erect four poles on
Forest Street from Hurlburt Road to Martin Road. Permission
was granted.
Mrs. Steel of County Road asks permission to appear
before the Board concerning repairs on County Road. She was
informed that the next meeting on August 22nd. would be
convenient. The matter of repairs on County Road has come up
before and on y;ay 17th. 1924 she was informed, by letter, that
County Road was not an accepted street and was therefore a
private way.
The State Board of Health request our permission to
obtain a copy of the report of Barbour and Dixon on the water
situation in Reading. We wrote the State Board of Health that
we "cannot furnish the report which deals with our present
supply, rate of consumption, future need, financing etc. The
conclusion. reached however indicates that our future need
should be covered by entrance into the Metropolitan System".
The Boston & Maine Railroad has presented its bill
for $811.25 covering its charges for labor and materials used
on the Main Street crossing in connection with the sewer
constriction. The bill was approved for payment.

Pg. No. 2 8/15/24
`r Twenty-six applications for water connections in
houses on Libby Avenue were received. There are no available
funds for the carrying out of this work so that the matter must
be brought before the next Town Meeting. The applicants were
advised as to the situation.
Mr. Collins, in his report as to the progress of the
road work, stated that there was approximately two weeks work
more to be done before starting on the permanent construction
work.
A letter was received from the New England Insurance
Exchange calling attention to the condition of the hydrants
throughout the Town.
Mr. Collins has gone over the recommendations and
estimates that it will cost approximately $1200.00; $700.00 for
labor and $500.00 for materials to put the hydrants in first
class condition. It was ordered that materials be purchased
at once so that the recommendations could be carried out
promptly.
The request of Mr. Ives, Summer Avenue presented at
the last meeting was answered. It was found that the approximate
cost of installing a sewer to the residence of Mr. Ives and
3Aeighboring structures would be $3500.00. Since we did not have
the available funds to do the work, and there being no indication
that the neighbors wanted the service, it was decided to let the
matter stand.
Plans were discussed for bringing the problems of the
Board before the public.
Respectfully submitted
