HomeMy WebLinkAbout1924-04-18 Board of Public Works Minutes g April 18, 1924 Members present: Geo. H. Clough, Joseph W. Booth, John W. Owen, Frank Carter, Miles C. Higgins, and the Super- intendent. The question of cleaning and widening the open drain from Washington Street to Main Street along the tracks and on the property of the Boston and Maine Railroad was referred to G. K. Thornton, Division Engineer of the Boston and Maine Railroad. The cost of maintaining the tracks of the Boston and Maine Railroad over the excavation for the sewer under the Main Street Crossing is to be borne by the Town. The Board acknowledged the liability and instructed the Railroad to proceed with the work. Mr. W. H. Marland of the Reading Rubber Manufactur- ing Company has given his guaranty that all water being used through their main is metered, also that no additional con- nections would be made without being metered. Because of the relative location of the Unitarian Parish House to the Church, the sewer entrance will have to be made from Woburn Street rather than from Summer Avenue. An increasing demand for water service on some of the streets where the main is only one and a quarter inch will make the laying of a larger line necessary. Mr. Collins is to make a list of the sna11 mains with a view to replacing them as conditions may demand. It was decided to extent the sewer beyond the con- tract specifications on Minot Street from Pine Street to 3Q South Main Street. Aw Mr. Collins was instructed to notify the residents on the streets served by the new sewer construction that we were ready to receive the applications for entrance to the sewer. Mr. Collins was instructed to obtain a price for house entrances from the sewer contractor. Considering the amount of work the department has to do this summer it seems advisable to have this work done by the same contractor. The Reading Baseball Association was given the ex- clusive right to sell refreshments at baseball games played by the Association on the Town Field. Respectfully submitted, Y ' Sec. , Board o Public Works.
