HomeMy WebLinkAbout1947-03-10 Board of Public Works Minutes 199, Reading, Mass. , March 10, 1947 ' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Davis, Lindsay, Putnam, Smith, and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Conferred with a large group of employees. Names of employees attending meeting are listed on attached sheet. Agreed to submit budgets as approved by Finance Committee and to give salary increases according to formula advanced by Finance Committee providing Town Meeting does not grant larger increases to school teachers. Received notice of meeting of Precincts 1 and 4 on Friday, March 14, 1947, at 8:00 P.M. Received notice of meeting of Precinct 3 on Wednesday, March 12, 1947, at 8:00 P.M. Received petition from Reading Town Team requesting permit for baseball games on Washington Street Park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning April 8, 1947, and on alternate Sunday afternoons beginning April 6, 1947. Voted approval of request tentatively and subject to later requests from other Teams . Received letter from Franklin Bryant, 65 Lowell Street, requesting sewer extension in Lowell Street from Middlesex Avenue to a point opposite his house. Placed on file. Received petition from persons on Elliott Street, requesting a sewer extension in Elliott St. from near Chapin Ave. to near Haven Street. 200 Placed on file. Received petitions from various abuttors requesting the acceptance as public ways of Yale Avenue from Hartshorn Street northerly and Intervale Terrace from the present dead end to Yale Ave. Petition placed on file. Voted location for gas main in Center Avenue and Maple St. from existing dead end in Center Avenue to existing dead end in Maple Street. Following Granolithic Sidewalk Application received, approved and placed on file: Carlyle Quimby 42 Pratt Street Voted permit to First National Stores to construct a driveway from their Parking Area onto Gould Street. Driveway is to be an entrance driveway only and is to be built as per the instructions of this Department. Board adjourned at 10:15 P.M.
