Reading, Mass. , February 17, 1947
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at j
7:30 P.M.
Messrs. Davis, Lindsay, Putnam and Superintendent Welch were
present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Discussed new article for construction of streets which is
to be introduced into Town Meeting Warrant. Article is to include
only funds for the construction of new streets.
Voted to include article in Warrant.
Received letter from Board of Trade requesting that part
of Haven Street be resurfaced.
Voted to prepare an estimate and to refer to Finance Committee.
Voted following January, 1947, water bill abatements:
Josephine Smith 330 Willow St. - $7.00
Rollins Copeland - 45 Chute St. - 2.00
Pauline Hunt - 258 High Street - 4.00
Frank Landry - 3 Fulton St. - 6.00
Considered Legislative House Bills 542 and 405 which propose
to amend Chapter 461 of the Acts of 1935 so as to allow construction
by Town Employees at existing Town Rates .
Voted to write representatives and senator requesting that
they vote in favor of these bills.
Conferred with a delegation of employees, Messrs. J. Putnam,
H. McSheehy, R. Morrow and E. Watson.
They registered their dissatisfaction with proposed 10,%
salary increase as proposed by Finance Committee.
Requested Board to resubmit their demands to Finance Committee.
Requested a 40-hour week and a 10% increase in salaries.

Board agreed to submit request to Finance Committee.
Conferred with Selectmen relative to proposed Article in
Warrant authorizing Tax Collector to collect all Town bills
exclusive of Light Bills.
Received letter from Roy E. Hatfield requesting Board
members to attend a meeting of the Precinct 2 Town Meeting Members
on February 26, 1947, at 8:00 P.M. in Room 19.
Voted to have a representative attend meeting.
Voted following pole location:
Summer Ave. - South Side - Approx. 277 ft. from Main St.
Conferred with Finance Committee relative to above mentioned
request of employees.
Board adjourned at 11:00 P.M.
