Davis, Lindsay, Brophy, Putnam and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Voted to reauest Finance Committee to transfer $2, 500.00 from the Reserve Fund to the Snow and Ice Account. Voted following pole locations: Pratt St. - West Side - Pole 30/1 abandoned Lowell St. - North Side - Dustin Rd. to Causeway Rd. Poles 53/63 to 53/82 inclusive changed Summer Ave. - South Side - Fourth Street to First St. Pole 87/23 moved 64 ft. easterly Pole 87/22 moved 28 ft. easterly Pole 87/21 moved 55 ft. easterly Pole 87/20 moved 70 ft. easterly Pole 87/19 moved 55 ft. easterly Pearl St. - South St. - easterly from Main St. Poles 70/1A - 70/2A - 70/3A changed from N.E. T & T to J.O. Poles 70AA - 70/5A - 70/6A changed from Municipal Light to J.O. Cor, of Lowell & Deering Streets Pole 17/11 moved 12 ft. easterly Pole 53/25 moved 34 ft. southerly Petition received from employees of the Department requesting change in working hours and increased salaries. Petition is attached hereto. Conferred with Mr. Percy Sweetser relative to October, 1946, water bill at the old Sweetser barn. (Acct. No. 2614A) off Ash St. Voted to abate $107.74 on water bill. Received letter from Selectmen requesting that 1947 Budget be filed by December 15, 1946. Discussed at length petition of employees which is attached hereto. Also other matters pertaining to employees' salaries working hours , etc. 186 Agreed to present 1947 Budget including following items, a forty-hour five-day week, a fifteen percent increase in salary and an increased number of employees. Voted to hold next meeting of Board on December 16, 1946. Received letter from Selectmen relative to traffic lines and signs. Will confer with Selectmen, December 16, 1946. Voted to include an allotment of $10,000.00 in 1947 Budget for replacing small sized water mains in various streets. Considered list of proposed sewer extensions which are to be set up as a bond issue. Superintendent to prepare new list. Voted to establish rules and regulations for installation of water services and sewer house connections to pre-fabricated houses which do not have cellars. A copy of these rules and regula- tions is attached hereto and herewith becomes a part of these records. Signed proposed gas main locations in Village St. from Green St. to Sohn St. in John St. near Stove Foundry, in Willard Street from Main St. to Pearl St. and Irving Rd. from Main St. to Pearl St. Considered proposed new set of rules and regulations for laborers covering new classification wages, promotions, vacations, holidays, sick leave, funerals, etc. A copy of these rules and regulations is attached hereto and herewith becomes a part of these records. 187 Board adjourned at lo:4o P.M. 1 Respectfully submitted: (Signed) Alex Lindsay Secretary I i December 4, 1946. We , the undersigned, employees of the Board of Public Works for the Town of Reading, do hereby, after careful consider- ation of the rising cost-of-living, and other problems pertinent thereto, respectfully and unanimously petition said Board of Public Works as follows: 1. That a permanent five (5) day, forty (40) hour work week be adopted, with no decrease in pres- ent weekly pay. 2. That a flat 15� increase in salary be granted, after new hourly rates are computed as stated in Paragraph 1. j. That overtime be paid at time-and-one-half after eight (B) hours work daily, exclusive of holidays. Holidays to be paid at double �. time for the first eight hours worked, and time-and-one-half thereafter,,for those who normally receive holiday pay. 4.
