Reading, Mass. , August 26, 1946
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Messrs. Davis, Lindsay, Brophy, Putnam, Teer and Superin-
tendent Welch were present.
Records ofprevious meeting read and approved.
Voted refund of $7.00 on July 1, 1946, water bill of H. E.
Woodman, 36 Howard Street.
Voted that Bill Slack shall have exclusive right to all
salvage on dump.
Voted to continue 5-day week until September 28, 1946.
Voted to employ Joseph McLaughlin as a shovel operator.
Salary to be $1. 50 per hour while operating shovel, $1.02 per hour
otherwise.
Voted to write Selectmen that it will be necessary for the
Board to request a transfer of funds to the Water Department at
the next Special Town Meeting.
Voted abatement of $6.00 on January 1, 1946, water bill of
Cyrus Thompson, 72 Hanscom Avenue. -
Received letter from Civilian Production Administration
denying Board's application to construct addition to garage.
Received letter from North Reading Water Department suggesting
a conference between Reading, North Reading and Wilmington to
consider common connection between the three town water supplies
on Mill Street.
Voted to invite both Towns to confer with Board, September
23, 1946, at 8:00 P.M.
Received petition from several abuttors on Cross St. complain-
ing of lack of water pressure at their respective homes.

Voted to write them that Board will lay new main and ser-
vices when labor and materials permit.
Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved
and placed on file:
Milton Symonds 170 Bancroft Avenue
Robert Lundholm 49 Weston Road
Following Granite Curbing applications received, approved
and placed on file:
Robert Lundholm 49 Weston Road
Signed agreement for removal of Barn at Memorial Park.
Signed gas main location Plan No. 77 for proposed main in
Cedar St. from Hopkins St. to Shipkin Avenue.
Voted to hold next meeting of Board on September 9, 1946.
Board adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
