HomeMy WebLinkAbout1946-05-27 Board of Public Works Minutes 166 Reading, Mass. , May 27, 1946 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at j 7:30 P .M. Messrs . Davis, Lindsay, Brophy, Putnam, Teer and Superintendent Welch were present. Mr. Putnam acted as Chairman until Mr. Davis arrived at 9:00 P.M. The following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved, and placed on file: S. W. Burgess 33 Bond Street Welton Burgess 29 Bond Street Fred Fairneny 205 Bancroft Avenue Voted permission to American Legion to play baseball on Washington Street Playground on Wednesday Evenings starting June 5, 1946 with the understanding that it may be necessary to make changes later in the year. Voted permission to V.F.W. to play baseball on Washington Street Playground on alternate Sunday afternoons beginning Sunday, June 2, 1946, with the understanding that it may be necessary to make changes later in the year. . Received petition from certain abuttors on Grant Street, requesting establishment of lines and grades for Grant Street. Plan will be prepared and hearing held when possible. Signed Chapter 90 Maint. contract for 1946. Voted to request George Baxter to file an application for retirement within thirty days since he is unable to perform laborious work. Voted gas main location to Malden & Melrose Gas Light Co. in John St. Salem St. Harrison St. Pearl St. and Charles St. as per Plan No. 74, dated April 26, 1946. Voted further to request Gas Company 167 to locate all services and mains to abutting properties and Inter- secting streets as soon as possible. Voted to advertise in Chronicle for bids to raze Memorial Park barn. Received letter from Insurance Committee relative to Machinery Insurance at Pumping Station accompanied by attached letter from Alden Goldsmith. Voted to refer contents of letter back to Insurance Committee. Voted following pole locations: West St. - Pole No. 98/44 to be moved 13 ft. northerly Voted to approve all actions and votes taken by Board Members at the meetings held April 22, April 29, May 13, and May 20, 1946. Mr. Sherburne Watts conferred with Board relative to the proposed garage extension showing sketches of proposed extension. Voted to heat extension by oil and to eliminate separate toilet and shower facilities for Moth Department. Voted to appoint Mr. Harold Putnam to serve on the School Site Committee established at the regular 1946 Town Meeting. Voted to hold next meeting on June 10, 1946. Voted to establish the following new working hours for Department for the months of June, July and August, effective June 6, 1946. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays 7:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon - 1:00 P .M. to :5:00 P.M. Fridays 7:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon - 1:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M.
