Reading, Mass. , December 10, 1945
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
9:30 P.M.
Messrs. Davis , Lindsay, Putnam, Teer and Superintendent
Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Received petition from employees requesting:
A. A ten percent increase in salary starting Jan. 1 1946.
B. A change in the work week from a five and one half day,
44 hour week to a five day, 42� hour week.
Petition taken under advisement.
Received letter from Selectmen calling a meeting of various
Town Boards and Committees at 8:30 P.M. , December 10, 1945.
Received notice from Selectmen of Special Town Meeting to
be held December 29, 1945.
Voted to request transfer of $4,900.00 to Snow & Ice Acct.
and $1,000 to Road Machinery Fund.
Voted to close Department all day December 24, 1945, with
the understanding that the Department will work if there is a
storm and also with the understanding that no overtime will be
paid for the normal 8-hour day.

and placed on file:

Received letter from Edwin Ryan, 160 High Street, relative
to possibility of sewer extension in High Street from Mt. Vernon

Street ko Middlesex Avenue.
Placed on file for future action.
Voted abatement of $10.00 on October, 1945 water bill of
Frank Dunn, 137 Pleasant Street.
Received letter from Board of Trade requesting permission to
erect loud speakers on poles in Reading Seuare during the Christmas
season.
Permission granted provided Board of Trade assumes all respon-
sibility.
Received letter from Finance Committee stating that they have
approved a transfer of $2,400 from the Reserve Fund to the Snow &
Ice Account.
Received letter from Mrs . Clarence Peterson, 7 Wood End Lane
requesting information relative to acceptance of street as a public
way and installation of sewers . She is to be informed that there
is no immediate prospect for either betterment.
Received letter from Federal Works Agency stating application
for $1, 500.00 for plan preparation for Garage Extension has been
approved. Also five copies of agreement forwarded to be signed and
returned.
Voted to authorize Chairman to sign agreements for Board.
Voted to hold next meeting of Board, December 17, 1945.
Attended general meeting of Town Boards and Committees called
by Selectmen.
Voted to include in 1946 Budget provisions for a ten per cent
increase in Departmental salaries.
