Reading, Mass. , November 13, 1945
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
9:30 P.M.
, Messrs . Lindsay, Putnam, Teer and Superintendent Welch were
present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Voted following pole location:
J.O. Pole 173/5 - Bond St. - moved five ft. northerly
Received letter from Selectmen relative to proposed unemploy-
ment compensation for Town employees.
Voted to inform Selectmen Board does not feel unemployment
compensation for this Department is necessary.
Considered case of George Baxter relative to his physical
condition and ability to do work. Read letter received relative
to same from Dr. Justin Anderson.
Discussed Departmental application to Federal Works Agency
for funds covering preparation of funds for extension to Garage.
Application approved and forwarded.
Received letter from State Department of Public Works relative
to Chapter 690 of the Acts of 1945 and its effect on the Lowell St.
Bridge. Letter asks if we wish to approve transfer of the main-
tenance of the Lowell Street Bridge to the State Department of
Public Works.
Voted to approve transfer of maintenance but to notify
State Department that we believe that Bridge is now maintained by
B & M Railroad.
Received letter from State Department of Public Works approving
work done by Department under 1945 Chapter 90 Maintenance Contract.

Received letter from Selectmen requesting early filing of
T1946 Budget.
Voted to notify Selectmen & Finance Committee that it be
necessary for this Department to have a transfer of $1,000 to
Road Machinery Fund.
Considered damage done to Memorial Park Barn by persons
unknown.
Voted to ask Town Counsel if Board has authority to remove
building.
Considered possible widening of all of Wakefield and of
a portion of Pearl Street from Bunker Avenue to Wakefield Street.
Voted to hold hearings as soon as plans can be prepared.
Voted to approve purchase of vacuum type copying machine
in conjunction with Selectmen. Cost to be approximately $150.00.
Received letter from Edward Brown, 28 Oak Street, suggest-
ing that a road be built between Oak Street and Scotland Road
approximately opposite Sigsbee Avenue.
Voted to notify Mr. Brown that the Board will take matter
under advisement and that it is the usual procedure to construdt
roads only on application from the abutting owners .
Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received,
approved, and placed on file:
Hayward Woodman 36 Howard Street
Foster Varrell 17 Wilson Street
Goodwin Atkinson 9 'Milson Street
Voted to set the salary of Ernest Watson at $.95 per hour.
Board adjourned at 9:15 P.M.
