HomeMy WebLinkAbout1945-04-09 Board of Public Works Minutes 109 Reading, Mass. , April 9, 1945 The regular meeting of the Boe,.rd of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Messrs . Davis , Lindsay, Brophy, Putnam, Teer and Superin- tendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Voted to take bids on 5-Ton truck. Received petition from employees requesting ten per cent increase in salary. Board will consider petition. Voted to authorize Superintendent to employ somebody to sweep Square and Haven Street. Salary to be set by Superintendent. Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on extension of sewer in Pratt Street from end of present sewer to a point approximately 30 ft. southerly to connect #+5. No one present. Extension voted. Received letter from Mr. Edmund Sanderson, Chairman of Water Board of Winchester, Mass. , relative to House Bills #138, 657 and 983 which are bills pertaining to the Metropolitan District Water Commission. Voted to write Messrs. Coolidge, Dickie and Peterson stating that the Board feels that these bills should be defeated. Received letter from V. F. W. relative to appointment of veterans to permanent positions. ' Voted to acknowledge receipt of letter. Received petitions from some residents of Cape Cod Avenue and Wood End Lane requesting: Ito A. The establishment of lines and grades for Wood End Lane. B. The acceptance of Wood End Lane and Cape Cod Avenue as public ways. C. The installation of sewers in Wood End Lane and Cape Cod Avenue. D. The betterment of drainage conditions in this area. Voted to prepare Board of Survey Plan for Wood End Lane and to place on file all other requests to be done as conditions permit. Voted to assist in Clothing Drive the week of April 8, 1945• Voted to allot the sum of $900.00 from the Highway Account for Chapter 90 Maintenance in 1945. Voted to suggest to 0. 0. Ordway extension of Gravel Pit contract for 1945 as per 1944 terms. Voted following pole locations: Hancock St. - to Mun. Lt. Dept. - a new location on the easterly side of Hancock St. approx. 235 ft. southerly from Mineral Street. Voted to hold next meeting on April 23, 1945 at 7:00 P .M. Voted to eliminate the advance water charge :and to absorb the cost in the July, 1945 and October, 1945 water bills. Voted to ask Town Counsel to prepare a by-law for submission ' to Town which will authorize the Board to remove parked vehicles from the highways during snow storms. 11 1 Board adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
