The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Messrs . Davis, Teer, Putnam and Superintendent Welch were
present.
Records of meeting of October 9, 1944, read and approved.
Voted to approve all actions of Messrs. Lindsay and Putnam
at the meeting of October 23, 1944.
Received notice from Selectmen of a Special Town Meeting,
November 27, 1944•
Voted to recuest a transfer of $1, 500 to the Snow & Ice
Account at the Special Town Meeting of November 27, 1944.
Received letter from School Committee inviting Board to
attend a meeting on Monday evening, November 20, 1944, at the
Senior High School to discuss school building problems .
Voted to build low English type stone wall in front of
property at 17 School Street.
Mr. Joseph Maguire, 23 Locust Street, conferred with
Board relative to his October, 1944, water bill. Board will
investigate .
Signed contract with State Department of Public Works
covering snow plowing on Routes 28 & 129 for winter season of
1944 & 1945.
Received notice from Town Accountant relative to 1945
Budget.
Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed relocation of street
lines at the southeast corner of Green and Main Streets.

No one present. Owners have filed signed deed and release
with Town. ,
Voted to recommend relocation to Town.
Signed plan and report to Town Meeting.
Voted to insert Article in Warrant for Special Town Meeting
requesting permission to petition the General Court to change the
Law establishing the Board of Public Works so that Board members
may also be Town Meeting Members.
Considered report of Weston & Sampson covering two
investigations.
A. To determine whether or not Reading water is
particularly corrosive.
B. To determine whether or not it would be advisable
to chemically treat the water.
The answer in both cases is no.
Steps, however, were recommended and put into effect which
have greatly reduced the iron content of the water.
Voted not to rent Department equipment for private con-
tracting purposes.
