HomeMy WebLinkAbout1944-07-17 Board of Public Works Minutes 81 Reading, Mass. , July 17, 1944 ' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Davis , Lindsay, Teer, Putnam and Superintendent Welch were present. Received letter from Allan Sturges stating he is agreeable to giving drainage easement to Town through lands of his off Pine Ridge Road providing only surface water drainage is discharged into it. Voted to lay matter on table. Received letter from Selectmen stating they have granted permit to Servicemen's Auxiliary to conduct a Horrible Parade and a Block Dance on the evening of September 4, 1944. It was voted to permit the Servicemen's Auxiliary to use Lowell St. from Main St. to Salem St. for a Block Dance on the evening of September 4, 1944. It was further voted to cooperate with them as in 1943. Mrs . Sawyer, 52 Salem Street, conferred with Board relative to erecting a fence along the east side of her property abutting Memorial Park. It was voted to erect the fence when materials and men be- come available. Harold Hardy and Bart McDonough conferred with Board rela- tive to two weeks layoff, without pay, imposed by Superintendent. Following Granolithic Sidewalk application received, approved and placed on file: John Logan 320 Haven Street Voted to hold hearing on drainage easement off Cross St. thru lands of Murphy and Merrill on the evening of August 21, 1944. r 82 Voted to purchase a new Sterling motor block and to have the truck overhauled by outside sources when the block is received. Received letter from Philip Leary requesting water service to a lot owned by him on what would be the extension of Hillside Road. Voted to install service when the house he says he intends to build is partially constructed. Received letter from State Dept. Public Works relative to the Public Roads Administration campaign for theconservation of milk- weed by children. Referred to Recreation Committee. Considered possible installation of Rustop cathodic protection equipment in both standpipes . Voted to reauest Mr. Palmer, representative of Electro Rust Proofing Corp. to confer with Board sometime in September. Considered Capital Budgeting Program. It was voted to approve and submit program as amended to Capital Budgeting Committee. Received letter from Arthur H. Choate, 235 Pleasant Street, requesting that the sewer be extended so that his property can be connected to it. This property is on a private way.
