Reading, Mass. , May 22, 1944
' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Messrs. Lindsay, Teer, Putnam, and Superintendent Welch
were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Mr. Lindsay acted as Chairman.
Received Chapter 90 Maintenance Contract for 1944 signed
by Commissioners of State Dept. of Public Works.
Voted abatement of $16.38 on Sewer Bill of Norman Charles
at 1 Raven Street.
Received letter from Charles Wilkinson requesting an exten-
sion of the Sewer in Deering St. to #38.
Voted to prepare plan and hold hearing.
Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received,
approved, and placed on file:
John R. Kay 50 Grand Street
Willis T. Dean 55 Oak Street
Voted to issue permit to Tercentenary Committee to hold
exercises on Memorial Park on Tuesday, May 30, 1944 from 11:00
A.M. to 1:30 P.M.
Voted to issue permit to the Reading Associates for a
field day at Birch Meadow on May 29, 1944, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 P.M.
Voted to furnish 4 or 5 men and a truck to the Tercentenary
Committee on Memorial Day.
Received letter from Ray Richardson complaining of Drainage
conditions near his property at 35 Pine Ridge Road.

Voted to seek a drain easement off Pine Ridge Road, opposite
Sylvan Road and to seek a right of entry into the storm drain running
through the lands of Allan Sturges, south of Pine Ridge Road.
Mr. Henry Libby, 15 Beacon Street, conferred with Board
relative to hiring bulldozer. Request approved.
Received offer from Andrew Ceder, Park St. West, North Reading
for old Fordson Tractor. Offer is to purchase at junk price. No
action taken.
Voted to appoint Jule Zanni a regular employee of the Depart-
went at an hourly rate of 95 cents beginning May 25, 1944.
Voted to purchase tar and asphalt for 1944 road purposes in
the same manner as in previous years. -
Voted not to pay time and one half for snow plowing as
requested by employees.
Voted not to equalize pay for laborers by raising the pay of
all employees to the highest rate paid to a laborer as requested by
the employees.
Voted to give a sick leave of one week to temporary employees
who have worked for at least five consecutive years and who have
worked at least forty consecutive weeks in each of these years.
Board adjourned at 9:30 P .M.
