HomeMy WebLinkAbout1944-05-08 Board of Public Works Minutes 71 . Reading, Mass . , May 8, 1944 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Messrs . Lindsay, Teer, Putnam and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Lindsay acted as Chairman. ` Messrs . McSheehy, Benton and Hardy, employees of the Depart- ment, conferred with Board making the following requests: 1. That all regular employees be paid the same hourly rate by raising all men to the rate paid the high- est paid man. 2. That men be paid time and one half for snow plowing. 3• That a sick leave be granted to temporary employees . Action on these matters indefinitely postponed. Hearing at 8:00 P .M. on proposed sewer extension in Linden Street from end of present sewer at a point approximately 90 feet south of the southerly side line of Lowell St. southerly, approxi- mately 235 feet. Following persons present: Mr. Preston Nichols Against extending sewer Mr. Maurice Blomerth Against extending sewer Mr. Ernest Lowell Against extending sewer Mr. Frank Burridge In favor extending sewer Mrs . Frank Burridge In favor extending sewer Mr. Daniel McGillicuddy Representing Mr. Blomerth Mrs. Anna Reck Housekeeper for Mr. Blomerth Voted to extend sewer from the end of the present sewer southerly approximately 130 feet. Voted to authorize Superintendent to use any means he deems prudent to acquire additional laborers. Voted to purchase a Barber Greene Model 38D Snow Loader at the bid price of $5,280.00 f.o.b. Reading, Mass. , less 2,% of the above price less freight to Reading, Mass . 74 Signed 1944 Chapter 90 Maintenance Contracts. Voted to relay with Type I one half of the sidewalk abutting the Hillcrest Rd. frontage of the property of James Clifford. Voted to purchase asphalt, plank, cement, etc. , for the resurfacing of the Mineral Street Bridge. Voted to authorize Superintendent to sign contract with Petroleum Heat & Power Co. for cleaning and maintenance of Oil Burners at Garage and Pumping Station #2 from June 1, 1944 to May 31, 1945.
