HomeMy WebLinkAbout1944-03-12 Board of Public Works Minutes 63 Reading, Mass. , March 12, 1944 iThe meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 10:00 A.M. Messrs. Davis, Lindsay, Teer, Putnam and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Ballotted for election of a chairman for the ensuing year. On first ballot Mr. Davis received four votes and was con- sequently re-elected Chairman. Ballotted for election of a secretary for the ensuing year. On first ballot, Mr. Lindsay received two votes and Mr. Teer received two votes. On the second ballot Mr. Lindsay received three votes and Mr. Teer one vote. Mr. Lindsay was consequently re-electdd Secretary. Mr. Putnam moved the reappointment of Mr. Welch as Superin- tendent. Mr. Davis seconded the motion. No action taken. It was voted to instruct Superintendent to submit to Board a list of employees stating each person's salary, duties and any other pertinent information. Discussed the organization and operation of the Department in general. It was voted to hold the next meeting of the Board on March 20, providing a postponed Town Meeting does not interfere. It was voted to ask for prices on three tons of fertilizer from several sources. Motion made to use Ordway pit during 1944. No second. No ' action taken. Received letter from Mr. James Lawrence, Maintenance Engineer, for the State Dept. of Public Works stating that an 64 attempt will be made by his Department to prevent filling sidewalks on Main Street with snow while State Trucks are plowing during and Immediately after snow storms. Received letter from Wm. Pitman relative to the drainage conditions at the corner of Grove & Lowell Streets . Board will investigate. Voted to allot $1,000.00 from the Highway Account for Chapter 90 Maintenance in 1944. Visited the corner of Lowell & Grove Streets to investigate drainage conditions. Board adjourned at 12:20 P.M.
