HomeMy WebLinkAbout1944-02-07 Board of Public Works Minutes 60 Reading, Mass. , February 7, 1944 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Davis, Lindsay, Teer and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Harry Smith conferred with Board requesting that he be allowed to rent the Bulldozer approximately once a month for about one-half a day on each occasion. It was so voted. Received letter from Selectmen granting the request of the Board of Public Works to continue Mr. Alexander Birnie in employ- ment as per the provisions of Chapter 16 of the Acts of 1942. Received letter from the State Department of Public Works relative to Chapter 90 Construction and Maintenance for 1944. Received letter from the Prudential Committee of the Congre- gational Church extending their thanks for the construction of a Granolithic Sidewalk along the Sanborn St. side of the Church property. Voted following pole locations: Cross St. - south side - Poles 16/7 to 15/8 - 15/9 - 19/10 - 15/11 - 15/12 changed from T of R to J.O. Palmer Hill Ave. - south side - Poles 178/1 - 178/2 changed from T of R to J.O. Received letter from Alvin Taylor offering $40.00 for the old, unused Water Dept. stationary compressor. It was voted to accept the offer and sell the compressor. Received letter from Nettie Pitman and Wm. Pitman relative to the drainage conditions at the southerly corner of Grove and Lowell Streets. 81 Voted to propose digging a ditch across the low area of the property near Lowell Street. Considered proposal of Post War Planning Committee to recommend to Town Meeting appropriation of $4,100.00 for prepara- tory Engineercostsof ten Board of Public Works projects of which amount $1,000.00 is to be charged to the Water Department. It was voted to approve the proposal of the Post War Planning Committee. Discussed possible projects to undertake as Post War Planning work. Board adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
