Reading, Mass. , January 24, 1944
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Messrs . Davis, Teer, and Superintendent Welch were present.
Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed sewer extension in Harrison
St. from a point 70' north of Orange St. to a point 90' north of
j Orange St. a total of approximately 20 ft.
Following persons present and in favor:
Mr. & Mrs. George Berry
No official action taken. Mr. Davis and Mr. Teer expressed
themselves as in favor of the "extension. (On January 25, 1944,
over the telephone, Mr. Lindsay and Mr. Lothrop expressed themselves
as in favor of the extension) .
Received letter from Mr. Alexander Birnie requesting the
Board to petition the Board of Selectmen to postpone his retire-
ment from February 19, 1944, to the end of the war as provided by
General Laws .
No official action taken.
Mr. Davis and Mr. Teer expressed themselves as being in
favor of Mr. Birnie's request.
Received letter from Finance Committee recuesting a con-
ference with them on the evening of January 24, 1944, at 8:30 P.M.
Received letter from Finance Committee requesting they be
furnished with supplementary budgets stating the additional
amounts that will be necessary to cover a 5% salary increase.
Note: This information was furnished to the Finance Committee
on January 15, 1944, by the Superintendent.
Mr. Davis and Superintendent Welch conferred with the
Finance Committee from 9:00 P.M. to 10:00 P .M.
Board adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
