Reading, Mass. , November 15, 1943
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7.30 P.M.
Messrs. Davis, Lindsay, Teer and Superintendent Welch were
present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Signed order of curbing assessment, a copy of which is attached
hereto and herewith becomes a part of these records .
Voted abatement of $5.00 on October, 1943, water bill of
Ira Brenton, 112 Salem Street.
Voted to allow 75¢ for meals for certain men during snow
storms during the coming winter season.
Received notice from Selectmen relative to the submission
® of 1944 Budgets.
Received letter from George Elbaum, Indiana Avenue, relative
to his water bill and stating that he will confer with Board on
the evening of November 29, 1943.
Voted to accept contract from State Dept. of Public Works
covering snow plowing on certain sections of Routes 28 & 129 from
July 1., 1943 to June 30, 1944. It was further voted to authorize
the Superintendent to sign the contracts.
Received letter from the New England Fire Insurance Rating
Association acknowledging receipt of an application for a survey
of the Town of Reading Water Distribution System and stating
that the survey will be made as soon as possible.
' Received letter from Town Counsel stating that it is his
opinion that it is the duty of the Town to maintain the fence
on top of the wall abutting the property of Galen Parker on Main
Street near Charles Street.

Discussed the problem of plowing and removing snow during
the coming winter season. It was decided to do the following things.
A. Make arrangements, if possible, with the Municipal
Light Dept. to rent their truck and plow.
B. Write old employees and others requesting their
assistance during snow storms .
C. Publish a letter in the Chronicle explaining the
situation to the general public and requesting thetr
assistance in clearing snow from hydrants and catch
basins.
Board adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
