Reading, Mass. , October 18, 1943
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P .M.
Messrs . Davis, Lindsay, Lothrop, Teer and Superintendent
Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved as corrected.
It was voted that all persons wishing to hire departmental
eauipment must personally interview the Board.
It was voted to take the necessary initial steps to secure
a drainage easement for the piped ditch between the properties of
Partelow & Smith on Pine Ridge Road.
It was voted to take the necessary initial steps to secure
drainage easement in the low area in the rear of Cape Cod Avenue
to provide a drainage outlet for this area.
It was voted to grant the following pole locations:
Lowell St. - west side - High St. to Grand St. -
Poles 41/39 - 41/40 - 41/41 - 41/42 -
41/43 changed from T of R to J.O.
Received letter from Rudolph Sussmanni Principal of High
School requesting use of trucks to transport football squad to
games at Winchester on October 30, 1943 and Lexington on November
6, 1943.
It was voted to allow the use of the Department trucks on
the following conditions:
A. All possible safety measures are taken.
B. Full insurance coverage is arranged.
C. Members of squad ride with parents' approval.
D. Athletic Association will pay department chauffeurs .
Received request from Winthrop Parker, 1 Charles Street, to
repair the fence abutting his property on Main Street.

It was voted to make temporary repairs to the fence and to 7
investigate the legal responsibility of the Department. [
It was voted to request the Cletrac _Company to make repairs
to the Caterpillar Tractor as P. I. Perkins cannot do same. In
the event the Cletrac _Co. cannot do same the Chairman is authorized
to approve having work done where possible.
It was voted not to give any abatement on the October, 1943
water bill of Walter Johnson, 310 Ash Street.
Board adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
