HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-10-04 Board of Public Works Minutes 43 Reading, Mass. , October 4, 1943 ' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Chairman Davis, Messrs . Lindsay, Lothrop, Teer and Superin- tendent Welch were present. Letter received from Mr. Brophy resigning his membership on Board of Public Works for business reasons. A letter has also. been filed with the Town Clerk. Voted to ask Chronicle to publish Mr. Brophy's resignation. It was voted to accept Mr. Brophy's resignation with regret and to write him to that effect. Mr. Lindsay was elected Secretary by voice vote. - It was voted to hold the next meeting of the Board on October 18, 1943, and to meet on alternate Monday nights thereafter. Mr. Russell Carter and Mr. Robert Vara conferred with Board in regard to possibility of hiring departmental equipment for private work. Superintendent will investigate. Following Granolithic Sidewalk application received, approved, and placed on file: Congregational Church Sanborn St. frontage Received letter of thanks from Servicemen's Auxiliary for cooperation of Department with them in operating their block dance on September 7, 1943. Received from J. Warren Killam, Jr. , relative to alleged accident at Town Dump on August 27, 1943, at about 12:00 noon. It is alleged that Francis LaFond of 161 Ash Street stepped into a hole and landed on fire. 44 Voted abatement of $17-33 on Sidewalk Betterment bill of George MacPherson, 10 Pinevale Avenue. Votedto investigate cost of survey of Water System by New England Rating Bureau. Considered proposal of Planning Board to establish a Capital Expenditures Budgeting Committee.
