Reading, Mass. , May 18, 1942 a
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P .M.
Messrs. Davis , Brophy, Lindsay, Lothrop, Teer and Superin-
tendent Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Voted to reouest a transfer from the Reserve Fund of
$1,000.00 for the installation of a drain in Wescroft Park. Also
to use not more than $1,000.00 from the Special Labor Account for
the same purpose.
Mr. Paul Carroll and wife conferred with the Board relative
to the possibility of removing boulders from land abutting Granger
Avenue.
' Mr. Albert Carpenter, Mr. Ruggles and Mr. Stembridge
conferred with the Board relative to the purchase of land, now
owned by the Golf Club abutting Grove Street, Strout Avenue, and
the well field.
Voted not to remove the boulders from the land abutting
Granger Avenue.
Voted to purchase approximately 14 acres of land from the
Golf Club for the sum of $400.00.
Voted permission to the Girl Scouts to camp out on Birch
Meadow on July 9-8-9-10-13-14-15-16.
Following Granolithic Sidewalk application received, approved
and placed on file:
Hannah B. Ferrick 295 Haven Street
Voted to abate the unpaid street betterment assessment of
$193.82 levied against the property of Sadie Melville on Colburn
Road. This property has been foreclosed by the Town for nonpayment

of taxes and the title perfected.
Received letter from the Metropolitan Sewerage Division '
relative to possibility of changing the method of assessing costs
of maintenance on cities and towns.
Board adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
