Reading, Mass. , September 26, 1949
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Calvin, Messrs. Putnam, Walker, and Superintendent
Welch were present.
Reading of records of previous meeting omitted.
Received letter from Herbert Richardson, 9 Fairview Avenue,
extending thanks for abatement in part of House Connection bill.
Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved,
and placed on file:
Charles Thorndike 31 Auburn Street
Following Granite Curb application received, approved and
placed on file:
Charles Thorndike 31 Auburn Street
Voted to request Finance Committee to transfer $250.00 from
Reserve Account to Dump Account to provide salary for extra caretaker
until November 1, 1949.
Considered request of Miss Mary Green, 126 High Street, for
an abatement on her 1947 Sewer Frontage Assessment because the sewer
is not available to the property.
Superintendent reported that because the house does not contain
any facilities in the cellar requiring sewage disposal it is possible
to install a connection to service all the existing facilities .
Voted not to make any abatement on Sewer Frontage Assessment.
Miss Harriett Baker of 32 Summer Avenue and Mr. and Mrs. John
Hogan of 26 Summer Avenue conferred with the Board relative to drain- ,
age conditions and facilities on this section of Summer Avenue
especially in relation to the run-off from the steep hill opposite
their properties.

Board agreed to investigate.
IHearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed sewer extension in Gould St.
from No. 10 to No. 16.
No one present.
Voted to make extension as above described.
Considered the request of Mr. Harold Abbott, foreman, for
an extension of his sick leave.
He has used up allowable sick leave for 1949, but, because
of an operation, will not be able to work for sometime.
Voted to extend the sick leave of Mr. Abbott for one month
based on his record of the past 28 years during which he has always
been a faithful, sober, industrious, and conscientious employee.
Received petition from several residents of Spruce Road
and adjoining roads reouesting that Spruce Road be accepted as
a public way.
Placed on file.
Voted to hold next Board meeting October 10, 1949.
