HomeMy WebLinkAbout1949-09-12 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. , September 12, 19+9 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P .M. Chairman Calvin, Messrs . Harrison, Putnam, Walker and Super- intendent Welch were present. Mr. Harrison acted as Secretary. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Received letter from Town Counsel stating that funds raised by Bond Issue for Water Department cannot be used to pay Consulting Engineers for making a survey of Water facilities . Hearing at 8:00 P .M. on proposed drainage easement off Haverhill St. through lands of Mr. Kenneth Hanson. Following persons present: Mr. Kenneth Hanson In favor Mr. Anderson In favor Mr. MacAdams In favor Mr. Hanson agreed to give an easement and signed Release from Damages in favor of the Town. It was moved, seconded and voted to take an easement through lands of Hanson as shown on plan (Refer to Plan No. A-10-120) Signed Order of Taking for above mentioned easement. Received letter from Whitman and Howard stating that they will make a complete survey of the facilities of the Water Dept. (Supply, Treatment, Distribution, Storage) for a sum not. to exceed $3,000, providing that the Department agrees to mutually expend a sum of $1, 500 for necessary materials . It was moved, seconded and voted to retain Whitman and Howard to make the survey above described. It was moved, seconded and voted to remove some restrictions on the use of water between the hours of 11:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M. I-1,6.0 on an individual basis. In each case the individual shall personally receive permission from the Office of the Board of Public Works. , -Held conference with the following persons relative to the use of water for watering shrubs and lawns at the new Eaton primary school. Mr. Alexander Glover Member School Committee Dr. Merle Wescott Member School Committee Mr. Melvin Crosby Member School Committee Mr. Gould Ruggles Member School Committee Mr. Robert Turner Member School Committee Mrs. Gladys Mitton Member School Committee Mr. Arthur Lord Supt. of Schools Mr. Starrett Representing Contractor Mr. George Sidebottom Architect After a lengthy discussion of the problem it was agreed to allow the contractor to thoroughly water the shrubs and lawn twice during the week of September 12, 1949 to September 19, 1949. Voted to purchase new pen sets . for the members of the Board with their names inscribed. Received petition for the extension of sewers in parts of Woburn Street, West Street, and Wescroft Road. Placed on file. Received petition for the extension of the sewer in Mineral Street from Summer Avenue to Prospect Street. .Placed on file. Voted to abate the sum of $36.00 on the House Connection Bill Of H. S. Richardson, 9 Fairview Avenue. Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved, and placed on file: Mildred Gould 49 Chute Street Following Granite Curb applications received, approved, and placed on file: M. S. Henderson 240 West Street lg�l: Voted following pole locations: Cross St. - South Side - Pole No. 15/8 moved 15 feet easterly. Received anonymous letter requestinP the installation of benches at Elm Park, so-called, at the intersection of Washington Street, Main Street, and Ash Street. Board adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
