HomeMy WebLinkAbout1949-06-06 Board of Public Works Minutes 144 Reading, Mass. , June 6, 191+9 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at , 7:30 P.M. Chairman Calvin, Messrs. Donahue+ Putnam, Walker and Super- intendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Following granolithic sidewalk application received, approved and placed on file: Mrs. Helen Beaman 339 Haven Street Following granite curb application received, approved, and placed on file: Mrs . Helen Beaman 339 Haven Street - Received letter from the widow and heirs of Carl 0. Olson stating that they have abandoned the idea of developing Bainbridge Road and requesting that the construction bond be released. Voted to release the bond. Received letter from Board of Selectmen relative to constructing new driveway to rear of Town Building. Voted to replace memorial willow trees at Memorial Park in the Spring of 19$0 but to remove dead trees now. Mrs. George Muse of 31 Cottage Park conferred with Board rela- tive to drainage conditions abutting the lot on which she is building a house on Hancock Street Extension which is a private way. Agreed to lay about 60 feet of pipe in ditch when possible. Received letter from Chief Wall listing several locations at which awnings are set lower than the Town Regulations allow. Board will investigate. Opened bids for backhoe attachment for Bay City Shovel. 145 Following is a list of bidders : ' Perrin Seamans Co. for K-12 Insley Backhoe $1950.00 f.o.b. Reading, plus cost of adapting Insley Backhoe to Bay City Shovel. Hedge and Matheis Co. for Bvers Backhoe $2293. 50 f.o.b. factory plus cost of adapting Backhoe to Bay City Shovel. Added bid of $160.00 if full manganese bucket is desired. R. G. Robinson Co. for Bay City Backhoe $2560.00 f.o.b. factory. Added bid of $155.00 if full manganese bucket is desired. Bids laid on table. Received request from Fire Department to install underground conduits in Lowell St. at Linden St. , Salem St. , and Sanborn St. Permission granted. Discussed estimated cost of repairs caused by vandalism at Birch Meadow Soft Ball Field and at the transformers at the Crusher. Voted not to repair Soft Ball Field Lighting Equipment. Voted to make repairs at the Crusher. Received notice from Selectmen that a Special Town Meeting will be held on June 30, 1949• Voted to request a transfer of $5,000.00 from Water Available Surplus to Water Department salaries and to request a bond issue of $25,000 for construction purposes. Following pole locations approved: Lowell St. - Pole #3/51 moved 14 feet northerly Lowell St. - Pole #3/9+ moved 19 feet. southerly Board adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
