Reading, Mass . , May 16, 1949
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Calvin, Messrs. Donahue, Harrison, Putnam, Walker
and Superintendent Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Voted to meet weekly until June 23, 1949, with the exception
of Monday, May 30, 1949.
Received letter from Mrs. Viola Woodward relative to plant
sale on Common Saturday, May 21, 1949.
Referred to Superintendent.
Voted to furnish two trucks and two drivers to the American
Legion for the morning of Memorial Day.
Voted to advertise for bids for sewer extension in Fairview
Avenue and Summer Avenue on May 26, 1949, and June 2, 1949, and to
take bids on June 13, 1949, at 8:00 P.M. E.D.S.T.
Received letter from R. G. Robinson quoting price on second
hand backhoe attachment for Bay City Shovel.
Voted not to buy this backhoe.
Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved
and placed on file:
Ralph Storey 258 Charles Street
Anne Del Proposto 41 Pratt Street
Received letter from Selectmen recuesting Board to build a
new driveway to the Parking Area in the rear of the Town Building.
Voted to do the job if possible, but not to make any definite
commitment.
Voted to abate the sum of $76.95 on the House Connection
bill of Martha Babb and Mary Whittier, 8 Elliott Street.

Mr. Dominic Zanni conferred with Board requesting he be given
' more consideration in the hiring of private eouipment by the Department.
Received letter from Mr. John Sias , 48 Deering St. requesting
that the sewer be extended from Wood End Lane to his property.
Board will investinate.
Received second petition from several abuttors on Ash Street,
Cross Street, Shackford Road and Avon Street, requesting the exten-
sion of the sewer in those streets.
Placed on file.
Voted to request Selectmen not to sell land abutting the
Quannapowitt Drain on the north side between both branches of
Track Road.
Because of the increased demand for water main extensions
' and water services it was voted to request the Selectmen to call
a Special Town Meeting in June and to send a copy of the letter to
the Finance Committee.
Considered buying machinery breakdown insurance for Hundred
Acre Pumping Station.
Laid on table until May P39 1949-.
