Reading, Mass. , April 11, 1949
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works .opened at
9:30 P.M.
Chairman Calvin, Messrs. Donahue, Harrison, Putnam, Walker
and Superintendent Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Voted to examine properties under control of this Department
to see if there are any openings created by abandoned manholes, wells,
cesspools , etc. into which a child might fall.
Signed joint letter from Selectmen and Board of Public Works
addressed to Mr. Allan Sturges extending thanks of both Boards for
the gift of land for Playground purposes.
Voted to abate the sum of $7.00 on the April, 1949, water
bill of Harry Newell, 192 Washington Street.
Hearing at 9:45 P.M. on proposed pole location as follows:
Grove St. - East Side - 221 feet north of Lowell St.
Pole. 31/1A validated.
Permit granted.
Received letter from Philip Althoff requesting baseball dates
for the Junior High School Baseball Team at Washington St. Park.
Permission granted.
Hearing at 8:00 P .M. on proposed sewer extension in Thorndike
Street from Pearl St. approximately 250 feet easterly.
No one present. Mr. Boyd Stewart reported by letter that
he and all other abuttors were in favor of the extension.
Voted to make above described sewer extension.
Hearing at 8:15 P.M. on proposed sewer extension in West St.
between Prescott Street and Woburn Street.

Voted to make above described extension.
Voted to advertise for bids on two 5-ton trucks and two 2-ton
trucks. Bids to be received until 8:00 P.M. on April 25, 1949.
Voted to take invitation bids for one business coupe and
one pick-up truck at 8:00 P.M. on April 18, 1949.
Voted to authorize Mr. Calvin to approve requests for base-
ball dates.
Board adjourned at 9:15 P.M.
