HomeMy WebLinkAbout1949-03-14 Board of Public Works Minutes 125 Reading, Mass. , March 14, 1949 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Chairman Putnam, Messrs. Calvin, Donahue, Harrison, Walker and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Three hearings were held by the Board of Survey so that the Board adjourned and reconvened three times . The hearing on the proposed acceptance of Indiana Avenue as a public way which was adjouned from February 28, 1949, was reopened at 8:15 P.M. Following persons present: Eugene Hayward Against 1 Robert Cushman Against Mildred Barton In favor Albert Woodward Against Elizabeth Arsenault Against Ernest Arsenault Against Violet Elwell Against Daniel Mullen, Jr. In favor Lewis Hamlin In favor Frank Elwell, Jr. Against Elizabeth Hardy Against Frank Hardy Against George Elbaum In favor Richard Winton In favor Voted not to recommend acceptance of the street as a public way to the Town Meeting. Voted to abate the Service Pipe Construction of John O'Brien, 54 Curtis Street in the amount of $47.63 because he claims Dept. cracked foundation wall installing water service. Voted to abate the sum of $5.00 on the January, 1949, water bill of William Burns, 41 Winthrop Avenue. 126 Following Granollthic Sidewalk applications received, approved and placed on file: , John Anderson 64 Federal Street Maurice Fortier 143 Washington Street Following Granite Curb applications received, approved, and placed on file: Maurice Fortier 143. Washington Street Adjourned temporarily at 9:45 P.M. to attend meeting of Precinct 4 Town Meeting members. Reconvened at 10: 50 P.M. Balloted for the election of a chairman. Mr. Calvin received four (4) votes . Mr. Donahue received one (1) vote. Mr. Calvin, elected chairman and assumed the chair. Mr. Donahue was nominated and unanimously elected as Secretary. , It was moved, seconded, and voted unanimously to reappoint Mr. Welch as Superintendent for one year.
