HomeMy WebLinkAbout1948-12-27 Board of Public Works Minutes At a Meeting of the Board of Public Works of the Town f of Reading, duly held on Monday, December 27, 1948, at which meeting a quorum was present, it was unanimously voted to amend the Rules and Regulations of the Water Department in the manner following: Strike out Regulation 2 of the Rules and Regulations of the Water Department and substitute in lieu thereof the following: 2. The Town will, in all cases, furnish and lay the service pipe from the street main to and through the cellar wall, and provide on the end thereof, a valve and the owner of the premises shall, in all cases, pay a $50.00 entrance charge and also pay for that portion of such service as may be laid within the premises at a fixed charge per foot which from time to time shall be established by the Water Department together with the cost of the valve; and all other construction costs incidental to the installation of the service. t Strike out Regulation 18 of the Rules and Regulations of � . ■ the Water Department and substitute in lieu thereof the following: 18. Rates for water consumption (Effective January 1, 1949) are as follows: Minimum semi-annual rate shall be $4.00 for which 1,000 cu. ft, of water consumption is allowed. All water used in excess of 1,000 -cu. ft. shall be charged for as follows : First, 2000 cu. ft. C 40¢ per 100 cu. ft. Amend said Rules and Regulations of the Water Department by adding thereto the following Regulation: 19. A. Extensions of water mains will be made only by written application on forms available at the Office of the Board of Public Works. B. Before any extension is made, the applicant shall pay to the Town, in advance, in cash, the sum of one dollar for each running foot of such extension. 2 Y The above amendments to the Rules and Regulations of the t Water Department shall become effective as of January 1, 1949. Chairman Putnam, Mr. Calvin, and Superintendent Welch were present. By invitation, a number of abuttors on Curtis Street, South of South Street, met with the Board at 8:00 P.M. to consider the status of the acceptance voted at the March, 1947, Town Meeting. The following persons were present: George Farpelha John O'Brien Harold Avery - representing Hiram Tobey Raymond Iverson Ellen Butt Martin Butt Mary Conley William Butt Donald Tucker Edward Weadick Mabel Weadick - 1 After explanations of the meeting and a general discussion, a vote was taken by ballot to ascertain whether or not the abuttors wished to have the street constructed. The vote was: Ten (10) in the affirmative - None in the negative plus one affirmative vote received by letter. By invitation, a number of abuttors on George Street met with the Board at 8:30 P.M. to consider the status of the acceptance voted by the March, 1947, Town Meeting. The following persons were present: George Farpelha Jake Ballentine Raymond Iverson Bertha Pratt Joseph Brown Edward Dinan Clayton Hirtle - After explanations of the meeting and a general discussion, a vote was taken by ballot to ascertain whether or not the abuttors wished to have the street constructed. 108 The vote was: Two (2) in the affirmative - Five ( 5) in the negative plus one affirmative vote received by letter.
