Reading, Mass. , October 18, 1948
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Putnam, Messrs. Calvin, Webb and Superintendent
Welch were present.
Mr. Calvin acted as Secretary.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Mr. Melanson, a contractor who is building houses on Brook
St. in Wakefield, conferred with the Board relative to the possi-
bility of obtaining a water service for Lot 3 on Brook St. from
the Town of Reading.
Voted to allow Mr. Melanson to lay a 1-J" service at his own
expense in Brook St. and to connect it to the Reading Water Main.
This Department will furnish lead corporation and meter and will
make the tan in the main.
Temporarily adjourned at 8:00 P.M. to meet as Board of
Surveys
Reconvened at 9:00 P .M.
Received letter from Donald Douglas requesting that a six
inch main pj.pe extension be made in South St. in Wakefield to
service a house he is building in Wakefield. This would be an
extension of approximately 50 feet.
Voted to approve the extension providing:
A. Permission is received from the Town of Wakefield and
B. Mr. Douglas pays, in advance, to this Department, the
estimated cost of the entire job.
Considered report of Superintendent on conference with J. J.
Cronin Co. , relative to their renting trucks to this Department.
for snow plowing during the coming winter season.

Voted to authorize Superintendent to make whatever arrange-
ments he can with J. J. Cronin Co. '
Received letter from Selectmen relative to a request they
have received from veteran organizations regarding the possibility
of naming certain areas or squares in honor of veterans who died
in the service.
Voted to hold conference with Selectmen, November 8, 1948.
Hearing at 9:00 P.M. on various pole and underground wire
locations.
No one present.
Voted following locations :
Pearl St. - near Willard Road - Removed J. 0. pole
70/53 - to a point opposite the northerly
side line of Willard Road.
Old Forest St. (Hurlburt Road) - East side - approx.
74 £t. from northerly line of Forest St. ,
Pole 36/39A
Main St. - East side - approx. 62 ft. north of
northerly line of Locust St. extended -
Underground conduit from M. H. 74/85
across sidewalk to property of N.E. T & T Co.
Considered various means of increasing income of Water Dept.
Agreed to submit a proposed schedule to Finance Committee
and to suggest a conference with them relative to the schedule
during the early part of November.
Board adjourned at 9:$8 P.M.
