Reading, Mass. , October 4, 1948
' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Putnam, Messrs . Lindsay, Calvin, Donahue, Webb
and Superintendent Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Temporarily ad3ourned at 8:00 P.M. to meet as Board of Survey.
Reconvened at 8:45 P .M.
Voted following pole locations:
Minot St. - Pole 59/9 moved 29 feet northerly
Minot St. - Pole 59/8 abandoned
Center Ave- Pole 12/4 abandoned
. Received letter from County Commissioners relative to
meeting on October 7, 1948, covering Chapter 90 matters for 1949.
' Voted to ask for allotment of $15,000 - $10,000 State and
$5,000 County - to be apportioned between Lowell St. and Charles
St. and to request that all funds on Charles. St. be spent on
drainage.
Received letter from Selectmen requesting that 1949 Budgets
be submitted by December 15, 1948, and that Town Reports be sub-
mitted January 15, 1949.
Received letter from Republican Town Committee requesting
permission to hang a banner over Main St. advertising the candidacy
of Mr. Arthur Coolidge for Lieutenant Governor.
Voted permission providing only Mr. Coolidge's name appears
on banner and providing banner is covered by insurance.
' Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved
and placed on file:

Earl Skidmore 20 Locust Street

Following Granite. Curb applications received, approved. and

Joseph McNulty 59 Middlesex Ave.
Signed Plan for proposed Gas Main Location in Vine St. near
Middlesex Avenue.
Received letter from Mr. Walter Gerritson, 179 Ash Street,
Waltham, Mass. , relative to the offer which he made the Town a
few years ago. In substance, he offers to donate $600 towards the
construction of a skating area off Cross Street to be named after
his parents, if the Town will furnish the balance of the funds required.
Board will contact owners of land to see if anything can be
accomplished.
.Considered possible snow plowing program for winter season
of 1948-1949. ,
Voted to authorize Superintendent to contact J. J. Cronin & Co.
to arrange for rental of plowing units.
Discussed possible methods of increasing income of Water Dept.
Board adjourned at 10:40 P.M.
