HomeMy WebLinkAbout1948-09-20 Board of Public Works Minutes 93 Reading, Mass . , September 20, 1948 ' The regular meeting of the Beard of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Chairman Putnam, Messrs . Calvin, Webb and Superintendent Welch were present. Mr. Calvin acted as Secretary. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Albert Rooney conferred with Board relative to sidewalk at the corner of Glen Road and Summer Avenue. The ninety day provisional appointment of Mr. Watson as water foreman having expired on September 20, 1948, the matter was reconsidered. Voted to approve the recommendation of the Superintendent 1 that Mr. Watson be appointed a permanent foreman in the Water Department effective September 22, 1948, at a salary of $1.47 per hour or $65.42 per week. Voted to purchase a weather forecasting service from the firm of Weather Advisors Inc. for the period October 15, 1948, to December 31, 1949, at a cost of $187.20 and to authorize the Superintendent to execute the contracts. Received from State Department Public Works two copies of 1948 Chapter 90 Const. Contracts which were executed by the Board. Voted to abate the sum of $15.00 on the April, 1947, water bill of Daniel Guild, 284 Ash Street. ' Following Granolithic Sidewalk application received, approved and placed on file: Henry W. Powers 65 Harnden Street 94 Conferred with Finance Committee relative to Articles in Warrant for Special Town Meeting of September 27, 1948. ' Received letter from Frederick Johnson, 32 Prescott Street requesting an abatement on the sewer assessment for the sewer construction in Washington Street. Board will investigate. Considered possibilities of raising added income for the Water Department. Voted to hold next meeting October 4, 1948. B oard adjourned at 10:15 P.M.
