Reading, Mass ., August 9, 1948
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at ,
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Putnam, Messrs. Lindsay, Calvin, Donahue, and
James T. Putnam were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Following Granolithic Sidewalk application received, approved
and placed on file:
John J. McCullough 18 Chestnut Road
Received letter from John B. Pacino,Recreation Director,
expressing appreciation of allotment of $50.00 for Field Day Prizes.
Voted to write letter to Board of Selectmen requesting them
to call a Special Town Meeting in mid-September for the purpose of
procuring additional funds for the Water Department. ,
Discussed recent Municipal Light Department salary increases .
Considered resume' of bids for two (2) yard truck bodies , as
follows :

Moved, seconded, and voted that two (2) new Gar Wood truck -
bodies be purchased for immediate delivery.
Retaining wall .at 11 Chestnut Road discussed; no action taken
pending receipt of .Town Counsels ' opinion re same.
Following group of citizens appeared before Board request- ,
ing immediate action on replacing of existing 1j" water main of
Ide Street and Gardner Road with 6" water mains to improve volume
of water delivered to their residences :
' Albert C. Maxwell 15 Gardner Road
Karl F. Barrett 20 Gardner Road
Charles Wilson 6 Gardner Road
Daniel Scott Gardner Road
Board assured citizens that matter would be given attention
at earliest possible time.
Moved, seconded and voted to illuminate Municipal Garage
for security purposes with either outside flood lights or inside
building lights.
Signed Order of Taking for Easement for Drainage and Sewer-
age Purposes thru private property from Bancroft Avenue to Cape Cod
Avenue.
Voted to hold Board meeting on Tuesday, September 7, if
necessary, to discuss articles in warrant for requested Special
Town Meeting.
Board adjourned at 9:35 P.M.
