HomeMy WebLinkAbout1948-07-26 Board of Public Works Minutes 86 Reading, Mass. , July 26, 1948 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at ' 7:30 P.M. Messrs . Putnam, Lindsay, Donahue, Webb and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Fresco and Mr. Frasco, two brothers, conferred with Board relative to the sloped bank in front of their house at 11 Chestnut Street. They wish the bank excavated, a stone wall built and new steps built. Voted to refer the matter to the Town Counsel for legal advice. Received from State Dept. of Public Works two copies of 1948 Chapter 90 Maint. Contract. , Signed two copies of Chapter 90 Maint. Contract. Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved and placed on file: Frank Hamilton 187 Bancroft Avenue Isaiah Doucette 28 & 30 Village St. Nicholas Dergay 142 Bancroft Avenue Following Granite Curb application received, approved and placed on file: Isaiah Doucette 28 & 30 Village St. Received request from a Mr. Marshall, 66 John Street, for an extension of the sewer in John Street Voted to prepare plan and hold hearing. Received letter from U. S. Army Recruiting Service requesting permission to place a recruiting sign in Reading Square at the inter- section of Lowell Street and Main Street. Voted to grant permission. ' Held conference with Charles L. Shea, Contractor and the low bidder for the proposed sewer extension contract. Mr. Shea presented a financial statement, a bond covering the proposed construction, and other information. A general discussion of the contract and work involved took place. It was moved, seconded, and voted to award the contract to Mr. Shea and to sign the contract. She contract was signed by the Board and by Mr. Shea. Considered purchase of two bodies for the two new Ford trucks recently purchased. Voted to request prices from several representative companies. Board adjourned at 9:35 P.M.
