' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Putnam, Messrs. Lindsay, Calvin, Donahue, Webb and
Superintendent Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Following Granolithic Sidewalk application received , approved
and placed on file:
Emmett Marriott 460 Summer Avenue
Following Granite Curb application received, approved, and
placed on file:
Marion Harrington 134 Bancroft Avenue
Received letter from Recreation Committee requesting an
allotment of $50.00 for Field Day Prizes .
Voted to allot $50.00 of the Park Department Rinds for the
purchase of prizes .
Received petition from twenty-three abuttors requesting
that sewers be extended in Ash St. , Cross St. , Shackford Road,
and Avon Street.
Petition taken under advisement.
Bids taken at 8:00 P.M. on several proposed Sewer Extensions.
Bids were opened and publicly read.

Voted to award contract to Charles Shea Co. providing he files
with the Board a statement of his jobs for the past year or two plus
a list of his equipment and further providing he can furnish the
necessary bond.
Voted to sign contracts for sewer extensions on the evening
of July 26, 1948.
Voted to install service for Strout and Wing Lumber Yard ,
from Bolton Street at one half the standard cost or 82j- cents per ft.
Voted to purchase from H. F. Davis Co. of Boston one Model
D G Crawler Tractor with Heil Bulldozer at a net price of $6,362.21
plus a V plow at a net price of $950.00.
Voted to purchase from H. F. Davis Co. of Boston two Model
H G-31 Crawler Tractors with Anderson Bulldozers at a net price of
$4,881.60 plus two one way snow plows at a net price of $650.00.
Voted to purchase from Lalime and Partridge of Boston two
Model F 6 Ford Trucks as per the specifications of this Department
at a net cost of $3, 581.40.
Voted to purchase from, the Laing Chevrolet Co. of Reading
one 3/4 Ton Pick tip Truck at a net cost of $1,334.15.
In the case of the purchase of the Fords it was felt that
the bid price of Lalime and Partridge being $408. 52 lower than

that of the next lowest responsible bidder it should be accepted.
' In the case of the purchase of the Chevrolet it was felt
that the use to which this truck was to be put necessitated buying
larger and heavier truck than was represented by the other bids.
Voted to hold meetings on July 26, August 9, August 23,
and September 13.
Board adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
