Reading, Mass. , June 28, 1948
rThe regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Putnam, Messrs . Lindsay, Calvin, Donahue, Webb and
Superintendent Welch were present.
Mr. Frasco of 11 Chestnut Road conferred with Board relative
to conditions within the sidewalk area in front of his home.
Superintendent instructed to investigate and report to Board.
Bids for three tractors and three trucks opened and publicly
read at 8:00 P.M. -
A complete list of bids received is attached hereto, and
herewith becomes a part of these records .
Conferred with Mr. McIntosh relative to proposed development
off Pearl St. on the easterly side approximately 500 feet north of
Willard Road .
Received letter from Mrs. Alice Halloran, 22 Prescott Street,
requesting that no assessment be placed against her property frontage
on Washington Street because of the construction of a sewer in
Washington Street.
Board will investigate.
Received letter from Mrs. Edith Batchelder, 194 West Street,
requesting an extension of the sewer to her property.
Placed on file pending availability of funds.
Voted to advertise for bids on sewer construction in the
Reading Chronicle on July 1, 1948, and in the Boston Globe and
Herald on July 3 and July 6, 1948, and to take bids on July 19,
1948 at 8:00 P.M.

Voted to authorize all employees, with a few exceptions , to
take their annual vacation from July 17, 1948, to July 25, 1948, ,
both dates inclusive.
Received letter from the Board of Selectmen of Wakefield,
authorizing the Town of Reading to furnish water to three houses
in Wakefield at the corner of Brook Street and Summer Avenue.
Received letter from State Department of Public Works stating
they have allotted the sum of $500 for Chapter 90 Maint. in Reading.
Received letter from Pneumatic Restoration Co. Inc. suggest-
ing a series of repairs to the Filtration Plant.
Voted to request estimated cost.
Received letter from Raymond Hillman, 102 Winthrop Avenue,
requesting filling be placed on the north side of his property
next to the ditch recently piped by the Town.
Voted not to furnish filling but to remove two or three
sections of pipe to provide better drainage.
Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved,
and placed on file:
