The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Putnam, Messrs. Lindsay, Calvin, Donahue, Webb and
Superintendent Welch were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Signed Easement for Sewer and Storm. Drain Easement from
Prescott St. to Nichols Rd. through private property.
Discussed various possibilities of raising funds for 1948
Water Department expenditures.
Hearing at 7:45 on proposed sewer extension in Harrison St.
from opposite No. 61 to Charles St.
Following persons present:
Mr. Eleazer Griffiths In favor
Mr. Griffiths also represented Mr. Arthur Curtin and
as such registered Mr. Curtin in favor
Received letter from Mr. Robert Dunlea, 15 Longwood Road,
requesting permission to install a pipe drain from his cellar to
the public storm drain in Longwood Road.
Permission granted subject to standard departmental regula-
tions.
Following Granolithic Sidewalk application received, approved,
and placed on file:

Voted to extend sewer in Harrison Street as described above:
Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed sewer extension in Prescott
Street from opposite No. 196 to West Street.

Received letter from Preston Nichols, President Reading
Antiquarian Society, requesting that the Antiquarian Society be
exempt from sewer assessments against property controlled by them
on Washington Street _

Discussed annual Wpter .Department income and expenses and
considered ways and means of enlarging income and also possible ,
increase in metered water rates.
It was moved, seconded, and voted to approve the recommenda-
tion of the Superintendent appointing Ernest Watson as temporary
foreman of the Water Department at a salary of $63.19 per week,
($1.42 per hr.) for a provisional period of ninety days, the
appointment to become effective June 23, 1948.
Mr. Donahue left at 10:40 P.M. after declaring he was still
in favor of Roger DeEntremont as foreman of the Water Department.
Board ad3ourned at 11:00 P.M.
