HomeMy WebLinkAbout1948-05-24 Board of Public Works Minutes 66 \ Reading, Mass . , May 24, 1948 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at , 7:30 P.M. Chairman Putnam, Messrs. Lindsay, Calvin, Donahue, Webb, and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Messrs. Robert Morrow and Harry Evans conferred with Board and requested that arrangements be made for a conference of the employees with the Board. It was agreed to hold the conference on June 1, 1948, at 8:30 P .M. Reopened hearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed sewer and drain easement from Bancroft Ave. to Cape Cod Ave. which was adjourned from May 17, 1948. Following persons present: Joseph Cummings Melva Charles Norman Charles Warren Charles Daniel Chamberlain Discussed possible locations for easement. An agreement was reached on a new easement location which will be laid out and developed by the Department. Voted following pole locations: Van Norden Rd. - Pole 136/35 moved 38 ft. southeasterly Van Norden Rd. - Pole 136/34 moved 36 ft. southeasterly Voted permission to N. E. T & T Co. to place anchor guys as follows: Ash Street - Pole No. 7/13 Forest St. - Pole No. 26/10A Received letter from Thomas Gillies, Cardinals B Baseball ' team requesting dates for baseball at Birch Meadow. I 67 Voted to refer matter to Superintendent to decide after 1 receiving more information from Mr. Gillies. Rearing at 8:45 P .M. on proposed storm drain easement off Oak Street thru private lands to Scotland Road. Following persons present: Jean Williams In favor Vernon Williams In favor Gertrude Stratton In favor Charles Stratton In favor Edward Sheldon In favor Harry Perry In favor Ruth Sheldon In favor Voted to take easement as laid out and described on plan. Signed Order of Taking for same. Received petition from certain abuttors requesting that a section of John Carver (Private) Rd. be accepted as a public way. This section extends approximately 80 ft. from the end of the present acceptance. Reconsidered the proposed salary of $59.63 per week for Ernest Watson as water foreman. Voted to approve this salary for a trial period of 90 days at which time the Board will consider a request for a larger salary. In any event Mr. Watson can return to his present position if he prefers. Considered two possible salary and classification schedules for submission to the Classification Committee. Voted to submit a schedule of broader and more detailed classes and salaries. Considered purchase of new equipment as authorized by the Town Meeting vote. 68 No action taken.
