HomeMy WebLinkAbout1948-05-17 Board of Public Works Minutes 64 Reading, Mass. , May 17, 1948 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at , 7:30 P.M. Chairman Putnam, Messrs. Lindsay, Calvin, Donahue, Webb, and Superintendent Welch were present. Voted to approve hiring the Burroughs Company to do certain clerical work in preparation for the installation of the new billing machine. Rearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed storm drain and sewer easement from Bancroft Ave. to Cape Cod Ave. through lands of Charles Ritchie, Bergholtz, Chamberlain and Cummings. Following persons present: Daniel Chamberlain Norman Charles Warren Charles Melva Charles Paul Bergholtz After some discussion a new location was proposed. It was agreed that the Board would stake out the proposed new loca- tion and the hearing was postponed until May 24, 1948, at 8:00 P.M. Signed plans for gas main locations for Pine Ridge Road - Oak Ridge Road - Eaton St. - Pearl St. - Parkman Road and Orange St. Rearing at 8:45 P.M. on proposed sewer extensions in Cape Cod Ave. and Wood End Lane. Reading Cardinals LBaseball Team requesting permission to play baseball on Washington St. Park one evening each week and on some Saturday afternoons. Superintendent to write requesting further information. Received letter from the Y.M.C.A. requesting permission to play Girl's Softball on Birch Meadow on Friday afternoons May 14 to June 18, 1948, both dates inclusive. Permission granted. Received letter from V.F.W. requesting use of a Department truck on the morning of May 30, 1948, for the purpose of transport- ing floral baskets to the Cemetery. Permission granted. Voted abatement of $40.00 on October, 1947, water bill of Edna Grant, 86 Walnut Street. j` Considered request of Classification Committee for suggested changes in schedule. Superintendent instructed to prepare certain changes. Considered appointment of foreman for Water Division. It was moved, seconded, and voted that Mr. George Baxter be no longer considered. It was moved, seconded, and voted that Mr. Ernest Watson be appointed the foreman in the Water Division at a salary of $59.63 per week effective June 1, 1948.
