Lindsay, Calvin, Donahue, and Webb were present. Conferred with Mr. George Baxter. Superintendent Welch attended meeting at 7:1+5 P.M. by prior arrangement. Hearing at 7:45 P•M. on proposed sewer extension in Pearl Street from Orange St. to opposite No. 16 Pearl St. Following persons in favor: Mrs. Charles N. Holmes In favor Mr. Fred Curtis In favor Mrs. Ruby Clough In favor ' Susette Berry In favor Bertrand White In favor Richard Goddard In favor Orlando Moyer representing Mrs. Holmes - Not recorded Hearing at 8:15 P.M. on proposed sewer extension in Harrison St. from near Orange St. to opposite No. 61 Harrison St. Following persons present: Harold Drury In favor Wesley Thomas, Jr. In favor Gordon Brown In favor Hearing at 8:45 P.M. on proposed Drain Easement running from John Carver Rd. to Winthrop Ave. through lands of Wadsworth and Hillman. Following persons present: Stephen Wadsworth In favor Mabel Hillman In favor Raymond 'Hillman In favor Voted to instruct Superintendent to examine houses abutting construction work requiring blasting prior to the actual act of blasting. 62 Hearing at 9:15 P.M. on proposed pole locations in Pine Ridge Road southerly from Sylvan Road. Following persons present: Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hutchins In favor Voted following pole locations: Pine Ridge Road -Poles 193/9 to 193/15 inclusive - J.o. Pine Ridge Road - Pole 193/8 - J.O. Voted to make a taking for a Drain Easement from John Carver Road to Winthrop Ave. through lands of Wadsworth and Hillman. Signed Order of Taking for Drain Easement from John Carver Road to Winthrop Ave. through lands of Wadsworth and Hillman. Voted to. install sewer in Harrison Street as described above. Voted to install sewer in Pearl Street as described above. Signed letters addressed to Mr. Alexander Richmond and Mr. William Slack expressing regret that they have elected to retire. Received letter from Selectmen requesting that a water main be laid into the Town Dump and that signs be placed at the entrances warning the public that the Dump is reserved for Reading residents. It was moved, seconded and voted to reconsider the vote of the Board granting all employees a ten percent increase in salary with a minimum increase of $3.00 per week which was passed at the meeting of April 2, 1948. Discussed letter received from Finance Committee relative to wage increases. Discussed entire problem of increases at length. It was moved, seconded and voted that the vote of the Board granting a flat ten percent increase be rescinded and that the following raises be substituted. i 63 A. That both classes of temporary laborers be granted a ten percent increase to the nearest full cent. B. That all other employees with the exception of the Superintendent be granted an eight percent increase with a minimum increase of three dollars per week. C. That the Superintendent be granted an increase of 5.1 percent. Considered request of Classification Committee to furnish them with recommendations as to possible changes in the proposed schedule.
