Reading, Mass . , January 23, 1948
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Messrs. Putnam, Lindsay, Webb, and Superintendent Welch were
present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Received letter from Selectmen relative to plowing driveway
at Hose House #2 and removal of snow around hydrants.
Matter discussed at length as were many other matters '
pertaining to services rendered to other departments during snow
storms .
Chairman will prepare answer.
Hearing at 8:00 P .M. on proposed widening of the northerly
side of Washington St. from Ash St. to High Street.

Hearing at 8:15 P.M* on acceptance of Barrows (Private)
Road from Lowell Street to Bradford (Private) Road as a public way.

Hearing at 8:30 P.M. on acceptance of John Carver (Private)
Road, commonly referred to as Yale Avenue, from Hartshorn St.
northerly approximately 600 feet, as a public way.

Voted to recommend to the Town the proposed widening of
Washington Street, the acceptance as a public way of Barrows Road
and the acceptance as a public way of John Carver Road, all as
described above.
Received letter from Commissioner of Taxation calling atten-
tion to Section 13 of Chapter 44 as recently amended permitting
Towns and Cities to incur expenses on snow removal.
Voted to write to Selectmen reouesting authorization to
incur expenses on snow removal up to $30,000.00
Voted to write Finance Committee same as Selectmen.
LReceived notice from Selectmen stating that Articles for
LTown Warrant should be filed by February 11, 1948.
Received letter from Finance Committee requesting that
salary adjustments, if any, be effective April 1, 1948.
Received letter from Mass. State Dept. of Public Works
stating tentative Chapter 90 Const, allotments for 1948.
Received letter from Allan Sturges requesting the acceptance
of public ways of portions of Oak Ridge Road and Pine Ridge Road.
Received petition from Student Council at the Junior High
School requesting certain services at Junior High during snow storms.
Voted to perform any of the services as possible depending
on the availability of men and equipment at any particular time.
Board adjourned at 11:00 P.M.
