HomeMy WebLinkAbout1938-07-22 Board of Public Works Minutes 2.70 . Reading, Mass., July 22, 1938 The regular meeting- of the Board of Public Works opened , at 7:30 P. M. Messrs. . Lindsay, Putnam, Brophy, Davis, Williamson and J.T. Putnam representing Supt. Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved as corrected. Mr. Edward F. Parker, 34 Woodward Ave., and Mr. Bernard Sweidler, 16 Vine St., appeared before Board to protest against storm water entering their respective cellars, thru cellar drain pipes . during the recent severe rain storms, and to see if the Board would take some action to alleviate the existing conditions. After discussion, the matter was taken under consideration and re- ferred to the Superintandent for investigation and action. Mr. C. Nelson Bishop, 60 Hillcrest Road, appeared before Board in relation to storm drainage on Hillcrest Road. Refdrred to Superintendent for investigation and action. Letter received from Board of Selectmen regarding lack of suitable fire exits at Memorial Park Barn. Placed on file. Following Granolithlc Sidewalk application received, .approved and placed on file: Charles E.Stratton & Carrie A. Stratton - 94 Vine St. Margaret G. Dinkel -235 Summer Ave. Jacob Riseman - 96 Washington St. Following Granite Curbin applications received, approved and placed on file: Harold E. Stanwood & Marion S. Stanwood - 7 Hillcrest Rd. Jacob Hiseman -96 Washington St. 2"-7" Following pole locations voted: Mineral St. - Relocate pole #57/4 Easterly 17 feet Vine Street - Relocate pole #92/16 Southeasterly 45 feet Communication received from C. E. Kingman, 12 Sanborn St., requesting granite curbing and gravel sidewalk abutting his property, in place of granolithic sidewalk. Referred to Superintendent. Mr. George T. Lewis, 14 Willow St., appeared before Board in regard to draining swamps adjacent to Cape Cod Avenue. Requests pipe drain be installed from Cape Cod Ave, to Bancroft Ave. , south of property of M. F. Charles. Taken under consideration. Mr. Lewis also requests catch basin be installed on Willow St, near his residence to prevent surface water flowing into his driveway. Taken under consideration. Board voted to instruct Superintendent to investigate possi- bilities of exchangeing present swivel chairs for safer and more com- fortable swivel chairs.
